“This is where your Fuhrer led you. Remember that when you die.”
The resistance in Warsaw has fallen and Johann is left to flee back to Germany with the shattered remnants of the Wehrmacht. Forced to join the forces of evil he has fought against for nearly twenty years, Johann finds himself in Berlin, a city under siege, in April 1945.
Elsewhere Erich has fled his posting at Auschwitz in Poland, determined to destroy his wife and take his son far away from the crumbling Third Reich. With the evidence of his crimes concealed, Erich only has to take his family and he can leave the Fuhrer to his end.
But with both brothers in a city cut off from the outside world, they’re on a collision course for one final showdown as the world burns around them.
James Farner is a professional writer and draws upon his love of fiction and his love of stories that span generations. His signature series Made in Yorkshire was born out of a desire to find out ‘what happened next?’
At the end of every good film, book, or TV show the characters disappear and that’s the end of them. James isn’t alone in the desire to find out what happened to the characters afterwards.
This is how Made in Yorkshire appeared. Starting from 1953 and driving on to the modern day, James explores the different eras of Britain through his colourful cast of characters.
Prior to writing fiction, he enjoyed a career as a freelance writer. His writing has appeared online, in magazines, and in a variety of other publications.
When not writing, he can be found sketching, watching sports, and playing the tin whistle.
I really enjoyed reading about the Brandt Brothers. James Farner weaves a good plot. The 7 war books involve Germany and Poland only. They are hard to put down. I read each one in 2 days. I does end as it had to have ended. Grammatical errors continued through all 7 books. That was annoying.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading about the Brandt brothers and their experience during WWII. Farner is one of my favorite authors! If you're a fan of this time period, this series is a must read!
This series held my interest in order to see what would finally happen to the two brothers. The books, because of the constant action & incompletely developed characters, seem to have been written solely in the hopes of a someday movie. What amazed me most was how over any number of years, throughout Germany & Poland, the characters kept stumbling into each other. Realistic? Not in the slightest. So many unexplained happenings, appearances, & disappearances. Add to that the typos & grammatical errors, & I was only relieved when I turned the last page.
I've enjoyed reading these 6 novels about the Brandy brothers lives during WWII. Mr Garner weaves a good plot. He describes wartime living and weaves people in and out to make the novels hard to put down. I highly recommend reading the six books.
I must say that novel number 6, Downfall, had more than the usual misspelled words. Also added or removed words needed to make one wonder what the intent really was. It was a little aggravating.
Great read. I read the entire series. The book starts in 1919 and continues to 1946. It is the story of two brothers, Erich and Johann Brandt. Erich the older brother is a follower of Hitler. Johann is not. They fight against each other. The story takes us from Germany to Warsaw, to the Russian front, to Auschwitz and finally to Berlin for a climatic ending.
