Excerpt: He got the boy through the narrow opening he had made in the door. It was pitch black outside and frigid. Like himself, the boy had nothing on but a shirt. Billy tried not to think of the cold, how much his arm hurt, or the ache in his shoulder from carrying much of the boy’s weight. They stumbled into the darkness being aided only by the small amount of light the moon was providing. They finally got out of the clearing that surrounded the house and into the woods. Billy felt the need to stop and rest and try to get his bearings. He tried to remember which direction would take them to the main road without getting on the dirt path that they had driven in on. He knew his best chance of getting away undetected would be to stay in the woods. He was struggling with the need for rest and the knowledge that the man could wake up at any minute. He knew that as soon as the old man saw that they were gone, he would chase after them. Billy couldn’t go very fast with the burden of helping the other boy. But he was thankful for the darkness.
Luisa Marietta Gold was born and educated in Pennsylvania, where she spent a large part of her adult life and worked for a large corporation. After her only daughter was born, she relocated to North Carolina, where she worked as a Realtor and began running a recreational business with her husband. She currently resides on eleven acres near a lake reminiscent of the Rideau lake chain that provides the setting for The Osprey Cove Lodge Series. The series was born from her love of that region of Canada, the outdoors, and lake life. Many years were spent enjoying the Rideau, staying in lodges, and for a time, her privately-owned cottage. Among her many interests are painting, cooking, baking. And of course, writing and storytelling. But it's the simple things of life that bring the most enjoyment -- the beauty of the trees outside the window of her writing room as they change with the seasons and watching her outdoor kitties interact and play. Nearly all of these interests and life experiences are reflected in her books.
This is easy reading but there are many spelling and grammar mistakes. The proof reader needs to pass a basic grammar test for high school seniors. I would much prefer to read the recognized best sellers.
Not that good. Poor grammar. Many spelling mistakes. A very simple plot. Not highly recommended. Seems to get worse with each book. I have read them due to boredom.
This novel begins midstream in a story that is 7 books long. Without any explanation, the joints right into the stories of a long list of characters where she left off in book 5. Most novels that comprise a series can stand alone; this one can not. To add to the ridiculous way in which this novel is written, the ending is a synopsis of the book which would have been more appropriate as the beginning of book 7. I guess I’m just stubborn, but I’m plunging ahead into the final book which has been written. If it does not wind up everyone disparate stories, I will not await another in the series.
Have read all the Osprey Cove Lodge books and have found them enjoyable. I find each book written as though the author is speaking to me with an ongoing story. While I totally enjoy her characters, there are a couple that are not quite what they seem to be, but it's fun to go on to the next book and see what is happening. This is the first series that I have read consistently, one after the other and am looking forward to the next book. Thank you, Luisa Marietta Gold.
It seems that the wind is blowing in s change or five. Julia has mellowed, but will it keep? Jenna has been brought to the lodge by her new husband. Margaret is in the art gallery business again. And on and on. The bag is back with Sam. What's next?
This is the most polite, courteous and criminal series I have read. It is fantastic! Learn how the other half lives. Sweet, heartbreaking and kind. I love this series of books. Ms. Gold is a master!
Familiar characters continue to grow and change as new characters are introduced. The intertwined lives of each character is a fun way to try to predict how paths will cross.
Life moves along slowly with so many different plots involved. It is hard at times to keep all the people straight with so many plots. How does the author keep it all going.
I like how easy it is to go from one book to the other and that each character/set of characters have their own chapters. One would think that with so many different plot lines it would be hard to jump around but because they are all interconnected it is easy. I am in love with this series.
