whispers of a soul

Rate this book
Whispers of a Soul is Humera Sultana's debut as a poet. It's a slim volume of poems written in a state of inspiration transformed into imaginative experience. The volume traverses through the realms of personal, religious and mystic feelings. Her poems have intense emotions and spiritual moods. Ideas and sounds are woven with a skillful sensitivity. She has beautifully communicated her varied experience of life. The poet teaches English Literature at Imam Muhammad Tbn Saud Islamic University, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. She got her doctorate in English Literature from MANUU, Hyderabad, India. Besides this, she calmed down her spirit of curiosity about understanding Islam by doing her Master's in Islamic Studies from Osmania University, Hyderabad India, where she was awarded two gold medals. In addition, she has a Post Graduate Diploma in the teaching of English from CIEFL, Hyderabad, India. Musings is the author's debut as a writer.

"Man doesn't die in a moment
He dies every moment before he dies.
He crumbles with each and every moment
Grain by grain, he drains and drains
Until he collapses into a heap of sand.
Sand he is and into sand he retrieves
To gather in a dune of sand
To gather in a dune of time."

It's such a nice read, I can't stop quoting!

A little, poetry book that is sectioned into five main topics: Love, Life, Beauty, Spirituality and Death.

I enjoyed reading this book; it seemed to have been written with an immense passion.

Favorite poems:

- Toys of Clay
"Each night, i pulled out of me from myself
sat by the window and wrote long love letters
The moon a mute witness to my euphoria and melancholia.
And every painful rapture carved into words
I folded each night in an envelope."

- A Wrinkled Dream
"A dream hatched in my eyes
And perched on its lashes.
It swayed to the winds of time
And often froze in a crisp rime.

It hatched in the rains of despair
And basked in the warmth of prayer.
It plunged into the oceans of tears
And swam ashore to wash away its fears.

As long as i am alive, it will be awake
sleep it will when i die."

- Death in Winter
"God! I was born in the spirit of winter
When love warms up all hearts
So, let winter rise its finger
To my last breath
Frozen in airs as

لا إله الا الله مجمد رسول الله

There is no God but Allah, Muhammad (pbuh) is the Messenger of Allah.
