History is on repeat, and things didn't go so well the last time.

Alexandria isn’t sure she’s going to make it to her eighteenth birthday—to her Awakening. A long-forgotten, fanatical order is out to kill her, and if the Council ever discovers what she did in the Catskills, she’s a goner... and so is Aiden.

If that’s not freaky enough, whenever Alex and Seth spend time "training"—which really is just Seth's code word for some up-close and personal one-on-one time—she ends up with another mark of the Apollyon, which brings her one step closer to Awakening ahead of schedule. Awesome.

But as her birthday draws near, her entire world shatters with a startling revelation and she’s caught between love and Fate. One will do anything to protect her. One has been lying to her since the beginning. Once the gods have revealed themselves, unleashing their wrath, lives will be irrevocably changed… and destroyed. Those left standing will discover if love is truly greater than Fate...

Spoilers

-The story line was boring. Nothing much happened in the first half apart from 1. Alex complaining about her Mary Sue destiny 2. Alex fangirling over Aiden and 3. Alex moaning about her bond with Seth. The second half was slightly more interesting, though that's not saying much. Alex has to go into hiding after she's attacked by someone from the Order of Thantos - they want Alex dead before she turns 18 and becomes the second Appollyon, making Seth the God killer or some shit. Anyway, Alex hides out with Aiden and she finally has sex and naturally Aiden's gentle, skilled and patient and aw yea..she has the time of her life! I'm foolishly hoping she'll have sex with someone else in the next book even though I know that won't happen since heroines in YA can only ever have sex with the hero because otherwise the world will no doubt come to an end.

-Alex was as irritating as ever. I was annoyed by how many times she fangirled over Aiden, every time she saw him or thought about him she got randy..ugh. We've already been told he's 'hawt' in the previous books, yet for some reason its still repeatedly rammed down our throats. Alex's obsession with Aiden was probably the worst thing about her. I was sick to death about her mentioning what colour Aiden's eyes were — OMG Aiden's eyes are grey! Oh look, now he's angry and they're a different shade of grey! Oh, now he's horny and they're fifty shades of grey! Give it a fucking rest!! How about actually telling a bloody story instead of describing Aiden's bastard fucking eyes!
I was pissed that at the end when Seth went mental and killed a bunch of people, instead of washing her hands of him, Alex defended him and was desperate to save him. He killed loads of innocents yet she didn't hold him accountable because she blamed Lucian for influencing him. She seemed to forget that he was more than old enough to know right from wrong. I hated that she made excuses for him and acted like it wasn't his fault — no one forced Seth to kill anyone but Alex was too stupid to realise that.
Alex was such a Mary Sue and goody two shoes - I was equal parts bored with her and annoyed by her.

-Aiden for the most part did what he did best and gave Alex mixed signals, like a douche. Then after he had sex with Alex he started to act like a love struck fool - why couldn't he have been loving towards Alex without losing his balls?!

-Seth for the majority of the book was the same old cocky git. He was such a slut sleeping around and then he got all hurt that Alex lost her virginity to Aiden - so he thought it was okay to fuck other girls but when Alex had sex, he acted like she did something wrong..he was a fucking hypocrite! And at the end he went insane and murdered tons of people but I'm sure that probably made him more attractive to most fangirls because what's hotter than a psychotic murderer?!

-Lea reminded me of Mia from Vampire Academy - they both initially hated the heroine, both heroines hated them, both lost their parents, both were attacked by stirgoi/daimon and had to fight with the heroine to take them down, both of their attitudes changed after the attack and they both started to eventually get along with the heroines. Lea was a far more relatable character than Alex - I would love to read her POV.

-The dialogue was still juvenile: jerk face, douchenozzle, 'holy daimon butt', 'now I smell like ten day old butt' - Alex sounded like a child and I wish she'd either swear properly or not at all.

The plot was as predictable and heavy handed as ever. The romance and characters were rubbish. Even though the ending was expected it was still rather good — it's a shame that the rest of the book wasn't as good as the last few pages. I'll still be reading future installment because I'm curious about the overall arc with the half bloods vs pure bloods vs the gods vs the Appollyon.

Well, there’s a lot to unpack with this book. Many aspects were incredibly predictable for starters. Seth, Lucien, etc. but the one most predictable thing that seriously pissed me off is the fact that Alex will do stupid and impulsive things that she was warned not to do and it will get her in trouble. If she would literally only just LISTEN! Holy fuck it’s not hard. That’s the reason for the lower review cause her obnoxious personality is getting old. You don’t have to punch and assault everything that pisses you off, too. That’s also getting old. I feel like she hasn’t really had any growth, more just is suffering from the consequences of her own actions. But, all that being said, the plot was fun and I enjoyed the pace of the book. I’m excited for the next one!

"Even though everything around us was so incredibly screwed up, we were in this together. To the end."

This book has become even more sensational! Words can't even describe how I felt. I love it. I love the way this amazing Greek myth story comes to an epic level yet leaving sort of open at the end. I have this feeling that something huge is really about to happen in the next book and something even greater needs to be told.

At first, the pacing of the story is kind of slow but it gradually became mind-blowing and adrenaline-pulling at the final chapters. Honestly, this book really got me. There are things that made me feel shocked, especially about the characters whom I trusted in the beginning but turned out to be royal villains. Ugh. :'(

But as a whole, Deity made up a great installment of the series. It was one helluvah ride! I love how the gods intervene with the hematoi world and the jaw-dropping action scenes in the plot. Whoa! It was that good.

And again, the story came to a complete closure with JLA's famous epic cliffhanger. That seems part of the game. On to the next book! :D

"I tried to breathe, but he had stolen not just my heart, but the very air I needed."

My Rating or this book: 4 stars

I've been VERY sick, so I didn't read for five days. WHO AM I? Regardless, this book was what I needed.

Is this series great, well-written, thought out, and unique? Absolutely not! Do I have a good time, love the romance, giggle, kick my feet, and get so invested? Absolutely!

This series just gets better and better for me. The romance FINALLY sparked in this book and I was a goner. I love this man, I fear. The first half of this book definitely felt a bit slower-paced, but it picks up as you go on. This edition includes the novella, Elixir but I will be reviewing that separately!

This one really pissed me off. Aside from the infuriating story line, this book was overall way too long in my opinion🤷🏻‍♀️

No wayyyyyyy!!!!! I cannot wait to read the next book.

I honestly enjoyed this one way more than the first two and while the twists were extremely predictable (you saw it from book 1) and still a slower paced series, I did enjoyed the contents of this book and where the story is heading. The writing is extremely easy to follow and while we’ve seen this storyline before I think there is some uniqueness in the Apollyons / God plot.

My heart kind of hurts… because I really do like Seth. I’m so mad. Alex is also a dumbass but she is 17-18 so I guess 🙄

Aiden is boring to me, idk why but I really do feel like he lacks depth while Seth is way more complex and explored. Leon ….is all I’m going to say. I knew it from the moment Alex said that joke about Apollo and he got all pissy 😂.

Super interested in how or if JLA will continue to incorporate more gods into this series, I hope she does.

Also, this is not a series I would read for the romance. It’s weird and I’ve never really been a fan of YA romance so….

H-How do I go back to other books after this?
So far I have been holding my breath for way too long without realizing, been absolutely devastated by and about fictional characters (again) and have seriously questioned my taste in books at thirteen (also again).
And, as a loving addition, had my heart destroyed by the included novella. I expect to be straight out sobbing within the next book.
Don't get me wrong, I know there's "Erwachen des Lichts" as a whole sequel-series after this - I read them some (long) time ago, but it's nOt gonna be the same (aNd I only own the german version). How did I wait so long to get those books??? Imagine If I had never read them again (okay, I would have anyway - but imAgIne).
Oh, and THEY WATCHED SUPERNATURALLLLL I LOVE THEM SO MUCH HOW COULD THEY BE ANY BETTER - THAT'S RIGHT THEY COULDN'T BECAUSE ThEY ARE WATCHING SUPERNATURAL
*skips off to start the next one*

The breakneck speed of this series kinda slowed down in this book because the twist/reveal wasn't strong enough to support a whole-book-long mystery when it was super obvious from the start. I wasn't expecting some of the details of the confrontation which kept me interested, but I'm hoping that the next book(s) pick back up again now that we're no longer pretending we don't know what we all know. What Kept/Didn’t Keep Me Reading:
I truly didn’t think that Deity could redeem itself, but it has. It was a difficult obstacle to tackle when it came to the beginning of the book. It felt like it was a lot of Alex whining, and nothing life altering happening. Once she had hit eighteen, the stakes truly changed, and I had found my interest re-peeked. Will we truly lose Alex?

It was also pleasant to see Deacon and Aiden’s life outside of the Covenant a little bit as well, plus you see more into their brotherly bond.

Funny side note, can I just say how hilarious it is that Persephone is always portrayed not serious in any version of a Hades x Persephone inclusion. [Insert Spoiler Name here] lets her win a round of Mario Kart on the Wii, so she owes them a favor. Haha!

What Would I Read Next from This Author:

Apollyon is next on the list, but I’ll be waiting closer to October 1st when the reprint of Sentinel comes out.

Another absolute cracker 🫢
This one was a freaking wild ride, it was so action packed I literally could not put it down. Did we finally get a bit of lovin? absolutely, did we get our heart ripped out? Oh absolutely, did we get some twists and turns, especially in the end? ABSOLUTELY 😮‍💨
This series has me in a damn chokehold, so looking forward to the last two books in the series as well!
I know I’ve mentioned this in the past but the character development in this is just 🤌🏼 again in this one it’s just so good! The way Alex goes through her awakening you just know something is susssss, plus I am SO in the fence about Seth 🤔🤔 I have a bad feeling about him but want to give him the benefit of the doubt for the last 2 instalments!
This one was definitely a 5 star for me 👏🏼🌟

3.5⭐️ This book has made me dread the next books and I hate that. I hate when I start a series and love it and then the books start getting on my nerves to the point I don’t even want to read them. Alex is annoying. And dumb. I’m trying sooooo hard not to hate her but I’ve never been this annoyed by a FMC written by JLA ever. Like girl, for someone so reckless and brave and who’s supposed to be a bad ass you sure are making some dumb af choices.. 🤞🏻 the next book makes me enjoy this series again and that I don’t drag through it. Because let’s be honest, at this point I’m not going to dnf, even if it may be tempting.

It took every ounce of effort but I finished the book. I really hate the romance aspect of this book, which is a significant part of it, so I really considered DNFing several times throughout the middle of the book. However, the fantasy plot of this book is so interesting and the book ended at a place where I'm excited to continue.

I also think I don't really love the MFC.... she just seems to lack connections a lot of the time?? I can't tell if it's just because that's who she is or if it's because this is a YA book?

This book was excellent, the best in the series so far! The drama, the angst, and all the twist and turns? Perfection! I love a rebellious Aiden and I’m crossing all my fingers and toes that Seth comes back to himself! I don’t like him like this but man is it adding to the story! I love how we are finally seeing the gods and goddesses in the book. They’ve been in the background too much and never felt like part of the story until now. I’m excited to see where it goes! And that ending? WTF….

You have sentenced me to the painful death of choking into my own emotions. This book was so painfully perfect that I have lost all my desire to live before I have finished the whole series.

Thank you.

This book is amazing, I love all of the character and they are all so bad ass. This is a high intense book full with a lot of heart wrenching moments. I can't wait to find out what to see how Alex is when she is an Appolyon. I really dislike Seth but I LOVE Aiden.
