Took a little while to get into but once it got into the actual students interacting it was quite interesting, the dynamic from the loner girl and guy is quite good as well. You can tell that she wants his attention but at the same time shuts him down every time he tries to interact with her, the other girl whose super friendly with the guy adds a nice balance to the situation.

The whole points system and students being in the lowest class of the school is quite well done as well, it's not one of those manga's where the student council rule the school with an iron fist, in this it's very much the teachers are in charge. So far I'm impressed, this isn't much usual pick up but a few were praising it so I picked it up, though the next few volumes will decide if I keep reading the series.

2.8⭐️

It was difficult for me to get into the plot since it all felt like a filler plot and nothing important happened. But things actually got a little bit interesting at the end of the book.

Title: Classroom of the Elite
Volume: 1
Genre: Contemporary

Plot: 2/5- The plot only seemed to come into play in the last thirty pages- the rest seemed to be some manner of filler content that only served to slightly introduce the characters. And even then, it only really focussed on half of the characters that had been introduced. I am hoping this is a slow-build situation, otherwise there’s not much hope of a compelling story.

Art style: 5/5- The art of this manga is absolutely stunning. Every page is drawn with such perfect attention to detail that there wasn’t a single page I found a sub-par illustration on. It was also nice that the female characters were attractive yet kept their clothes on for 90% of the volume.

Cuteness: 2/5- There didn’t seem to be much cuteness in the way any of the characters portrayed themselves, and in fact it was only their physical appearances that gave the impression of cuteness. As someone who values personality over looks, I don’t feel that the cuteness in this volume was noteworthy, or even counted.

Characters: 3/5- So I didn’t like anyone. However, I feel that may have been the point, so the characters were obviously well written. It’s just a shame that they were all such undeniable assholes. Everyone seems to have either an ulterior motive or straight up dislike for their peers- but I suppose at least they were consistent.

Relatability: 3/5- I still manage to relate to books/ manga/ films that are set in school environments, and I found that the interactions were very realistic. I also found the idea of teenagers spending all of their money in a month on rubbish and having no more for food, etc, very realistic. The only thing that brought it down in terms of relatability was the actual premise of the school itself- I wish I was given £200,000 for free!

Overall Judgement: 3/5

I hate to say it, but the anime was better. As for the light novel (original source) I can't say much since I haven't read it yet. I'll keep on reading it and I'll eventually make a comparison between the anime and manga. This was enjoyable, but also very frustrating because Ayanokouji (which is one of my fav characters in psychological animanga) is such a typical teen boy here, what did they do to him D: In the anime he was super cool and you couldn't tell his expressions which made the twist by the end of s1 sooooooo good but here? He is calling girls cute, he is blushing and he acts like an airhead. In the anime you could tell he was intelligent and he didn't show his emotions which made his character a mystery.

I did like the short story included at the end, taken drom the light novel. Cool mix with manga and a novel. I'll read this whole thing and give a full review on my youtube once I read it all and compare, on tik tok you'll find a more in depth video that will come out soon on what I liked- and what I did not like in volume 1.

Story: 2,5 ⭑ (some things stuck true to the anime, others did not)
Art: 2 ⭑ (was just okay)
Characters: 1⭑ (what did they do to my mans Ayanokouji
T-T)

I've been wanting to read this series for such a long time after I watched the anime ages back! And I don't read light novels so it's been a long wait.

At this point I have vague memories of the series so it's almost like I'm going into this series half ind which is making me get more and more excited to what's to come. The main group of character were great when I first met them and now is no different!

If I'm being honest, I don't think I like this version. I started with the anime, then picked up the "light" novel in order to keep reading the story since anime takes forever to catch up. The manga... takes some HUGE liberties with what I consider to be "canon" (things like the fact Ayanokouji hardly reacts to anything, which he does periodically in the manga... also the flagrant cheesecake shots from out of nowhere).

Sure, the core story is still there, but it's the little things that make be wonder, okay, did whoever scripted this version intentionally want to change things up? (It isn't clear if Kinugasa, who wrote the light novels, also scripted the manga for Ichino to draw.) That kind of thing bugged me a bit even with beloved stories like The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, that each version was just a little (or a LOT) different.

I don't know. The art is competent enough that I would otherwise like this version, but I just can't get past the little details, especially considering that being emotionless is a core part of Ayanokouji's character. Maybe not internally (he thinks a lot about wanting friends but is too shy to act on it), but in outwardly expressing it (later in the series, ). Possibly the author had second thoughts about the direction of the story after getting so far in?

Fans of the series might like this. I like (some of) the art, but that's about it. I'd prefer to re-read the light novels, I think.

Edit: Forgot there's also a short story at the end. I don't remember if it's in the light novels (I assume not), but it's entirely forgettable and reads like someone's introspective Facebook post: "Hung out with friends today. Well, I suppose they're as close as I have to friends. Will I look back on thus time fondly?" Nothing particularly interesting, unless pseudo-voyeurism is your thing ("spying" on the private lives of these characters).

I don't remember high school being this intense, forbidding any connection to the outside world or the students' families in the entire time they're attending. That sounds like absolute hell, and even if my son or daughter were given acceptance letters to this school or one like this, I wouldn't let them go. If they're a minor under my care, it's my job to protect and guide them, and I won't have any and all school systems doing that for me. Setting my distaste for fictional schools like this one, I rather liked the cast of characters. Who knew the quiet loner girl would be a genius? Who knew that slacker would have the highest GPA of all? Those two twists are ones I saw coming, but the plot twist I didn't see was the cutesy girl being a freaking out-of-her-mind lunatic who's prepared to cry assault just to keep the façade that she's the nicest being on the planet. I feel someone really needs to take down little miss cutesy-dangerous and show her just as much dark karma as she threatens to unleash on others who defy her. Grr…

I'll give this a few more volumes since my library has it. Just have to wait weeks for the next one unfortunately...
The story/concept is intriguing, the twist at the end I didn't see that one coming. That character did a 180 and I'm not sure if I like what they threatened to do to the MC. I know this is a story but because of people like that, and I do mean people not just one gender, there is a reason why others are not taken seriously enough. Yes I'm trying to keep it vague on purpose but this complaint might already have spoiled what my issue might be about.
That said my other only compliant is the fanservice which mostly is completely out of nowhere and without context in my opinion compared to other stories I have read. Since I don't care for it in general in any stories, and it is not overtaking the story in this series so far, I can ignore it enough to at least continue for a few more volumes.
My only concern is whether or not this manga becomes very repetitive with how the plot/story is written with the point system etc.

I love the art style, but this one was definitely a failed adaptation. I haven't watched the anime or read the original light novels, but rather than feeling like an establishing volume this felt like filler from the beginning. I can't help but feel that some of the plot and character establishing detail was lost in translation from novel to manga. There's definitely a fan-service focus, but I cannot comment on whether or not that is accurate to the source media (I assume it is to some degree).

I may still try the anime, but I won't be continuing with the manga.

Classroom of the Elite Vol. 1

I love the story it's very engaging especially because of the complex characters. I don't like the suddenly nude sexual pages since they don't add anything to the story.

This one took awhile to get into. The beginning was slow but the end got good. I will probably read the next one to see if it keeps with the pace of the end....or the beginning.
