This is one of those books where you are reluctant to read because it's so good you don't want it to end. I would happily read 20 volumes of their adventures. The way they communicate, behave is just perfect. From Jing family's short and succinct sentences, extreme intelligence, wry humour, punch lines, to Leng family's righteousness & bravery.
If there is just one complaint, it's that the author overuses this phrase 三下五除二. I'm pretty sure there are other ways of describing. Overall the language is smooth, which made this super jarring and cringe.
Legit obsessed over this. If anyone knows what genre this is, I'll buy all the books on Taobao. 2 chapters in, I had already paid for the author's other books.
I believe it's been adapted into a show, but I sincerely doubt it will do the book justice. The humour and wit is just incredible. Jing Yi is the young master of the Dali Temple lawyers (?), Leng Yue is his newly married wife, who happens to be the only female detective. She's stronger, tougher and a brilliant coroner. Strange things simply happen to them.
Some reviews call the plot formulaic, but I find it very witty and humorous as they solve crimes while accumulating shared experiences and learning about one another. "You..... have no clue how to read an autopsy report? The brothel scene was simply genius. The fact that he didn't know whether to be indignant being caught frequenting a brothel by his new wife, or that she wasn't even concerned if he was there for the ladies or the cuisine, or the fact that she herself frequents the establishment regularly to visit a friend who works there.
In life, it really annoys me when people say "you keep getting into weird situations." Listen, I go out there on grand adventures, of course stuff is going to happen. In case anyone missed it, I don't work a standard 9 to 5 office job. Life is an adventure, characters come and go, there's a chaotic plot, my Instagram posts jump from sequel to prequel randomly. Life is messy, go kick a rock.

3.5/5吧！虽说在言情小说里要求主人公好好搞事业有点苛刻了，但是有一说一他俩的感情线怎么说呢，吃醋也太多吧芝麻绿豆的事儿啊啊啊啊！！（没错，我在无能狂怒）不过，有一说一，每个案子都有点东西！看的时候全程：嗯？啊这……哈哈哈哈！！我丢？？
