I fell in love with reading at a very early age, mostly because my mother was a school teacher and she insisted that my sisters and I be able to read really well. It wasn't until a career change that I was able to embrace my joy of writing. I'm happiest when I'm writing. I will always write. I can't help myself.

Andrea Taylor has taken an aggressive stance in raising her daughter, particularly after her nasty divorce from a husband who quickly remarries and begins another family. Is this because she's felt bullied, but never stood up to him?

When her daughter is injured, but refuses to talk to Andrea about it, the school calls in the same child psychologist who met the family during the divorce proceedings. Andrea's immediate reaction is anger and lashing out. After all, the psychologist, Jake Polegato, had tended to side with the smooth-talking father.

This time, however, he observes something that he missed the last time. And he finds himself attracted to the prickly Andrea, in spite of his earlier misgivings. More important, however, is his desire to help the girl.

What finally comes out allows the author to explore some of the issues surrounding bullying behavior and the teen's coming-out as gay. Who can she tell without incurring additional anger? Will her mother accept her? She already suspects her father won't. But what about her aging grandmother? And what about her best friend, who is now dating one of the boys who've been bedeviling her?

A story that raises contemporary questions.
