Some guys think yoga makes you less of a man, the truth is it makes you a better one.
In today’s society, being a man is tough. There is a set of unspoken rules that govern the way men are supposed to act and behave – act tough, don’t cry, win at all costs and these rules are passed down from generation to generation. BUT a shift has happened and the world has opened up to a more conscious way of living, a more compassionate way of living.
Boys of Yoga’s Sit Down, Be Quiet is a straightforward book for the modern male who’s ready to step in and start taking control of their own identity and mental well-being. It’s time to smash the stereotypes and appreciate that It’s cool to be kind, self- aware and non-judgemental. Through practising yoga – working inside as well as out and adopting a mindful approach to the everyday, this book celebrates the way in which guys can take the first steps to a healthier, happier life in the here and now.
I first read this book 4 years ago, which was the first time I really started to commit to a yoga practice. Rereading it has been a positive reminder of why I continue to do yoga, and covers the varied reasons my friends would benefit from it if they just gave it a chance.
Written in an almost conversational style, in short sections with plenty of colour and glossy photography, this is an easy to read and approachable book, and one I'd recommend to any guys looking to try yoga out but are sitting on the fence.
Boys of Yoga :) what a cool community. The book itself is a bit too american, but come on, it is full of yoga! As a yogini with a steady practice and knowledge the written stuff is like a commercial : bright, shiny and beautiful, but of it has the effect to move the masses to a yoga class, then it is worth it :)
I struggle with a lot of Yoga books as honestly they can be a bit wanky. This one. mostly focused on introducing and encouraging men into the world of Yoga and Mindfulness is just the right side of things though. It’s an enjoyable and informative read. It’s also very easy to pick up at your leisure and was the perfect pool-side book whilst on Holiday.
