Silent Ground #2

Silent Ground Part 2

Rate this book
At one point in time, Sasha thought that just being told he wasn’t crazy would be good enough for him. After years of thinking he was losing his mind, being understood and accepted seemed like a pipe dream. But now, Sasha’s living with two men with abilities like him, Kheva and Kel Swift, two men who know what he’s going through. However, this lakeside house is no vacation. Sasha is being abused and tortured in the worst way, and the only reason he’s been given as to why, is that it’s supposedly growing his powers.

Powers that are now responsible for killing someone like them, another nightcrawler.

This is madness, all of this is madness. Revenge is sweet, but murder? Sasha is beginning to realize he’s been brought into something that far outreaches the insanity he had signed up for.

And Rob. What about Rob? While Sasha is being trained by Kheva, Rob is the voice in the back of his head urging Sasha to free him. But there’s something about Rob that Sasha is uncomfortable with, and he starts suspecting that there might be more to this story than he’s been told.

And back home, Lex and Jobe have teamed up with Ian Lariat, a private investigator, and Ian’s younger brother Nate. Nate once had close ties to Kel, and is just as determined as Jobe and Lex to bring their loved ones home where they belong. But determination can only go so far, and they will soon learn that nothing good comes from messing with Kheva, or who Kheva has deemed his property.

This book was...
I have no words for it!
From the first book to the second book, I literally hated every character with so much passion! Most of all Kheva. By the end of this book, I have to admit that I've started to appreciate Sasha and like Kheva a little bit... But that still doesn't justify what he did to Sasha!
I had hoped that there would be more information about the project of the Germans who did human experiments and created the Immortals, Silas, Sky and Perish; the first generation that should have served as weapons but also the second generation that are called nightcrawlers the Russians created when they stole the genetic code from the Germans.
The ending was really... Brain fuck... I was so happy to see Silas in this book, I just wish there was more of him and the first gen.
I can't wait for Quil to finally write Silas's story set pre-fallocaust!
On to Elish's book where we will read his childhood and finally understand why he turned into this cold-blooded chimera that he is.

Silent Ground by Quil Carter is probably some of the strangest things I have read. However, it had that distinct feature of making you want to know what happens next! You never really know who is the "evil" characters, who can be trusted, and what the final outcome of situations will be. Each time you think you have the characters figured out, the author twists them again... it was kind of brilliant!.

Additionally, the world building. Wow. Lots of details. But they were good details and helped to make the story believable.

I picked up these books because I was looking for something different, and oh boy did I find it!
This is the final book of the series, its only two books and yes they both must be read. Its a mind-bending ride, but it was fun!

I just can’t anymore with guys with no backbone who fall in love with an abusive older man that slaps them around….
Fed up with b*tches who suffer from the Stockholm syndrome ….

What a wild ride! I have to finish processing what I've read. OMG just doesn't do it justice. This author is one of my fave authors of all time. Silent Ground is unique, heavy on the dark and edgy with lots of lust and sex, tenderness and angst and includes every emotion: action, drama, humor, love joy, despair. In other words: bipolar. I was bombarded on all sides. Lines were blurred between good and bad. I can't pigeon hole this story into any genre. It's everything. I'm addicted. I need and want more, everything this author has to offer. I'm grabbing and devouring.

Now everything makes sense!

What a way to finish a story and go back to the huge Fallocaust series.

I’m not gonna lie, I refused to believe the nightcrawlers were directly connected to Silas heritage because well, the first book didn’t give me any concrete answer although the reading order says it so lol. The second books is amazing, the story is addicting and its twist after twist. Seeing Johan made me snap and finally realize it’s really the Fallocaust world. Nik was a tricky one, since in the first book he was called always Nik and my head is full of thoughts of needing to study for my tests.

I wish we could se more of Sasha and Kheva, I really like them tbh, and I hope we see them again but I don’t know if they are indeed immortals, I do think Kheva might have been alive for a longer time than he says because he’s rich rich but who knows.

Quil Carter thank you for your twisted genius mind, it feels me with insane pleasure to read your stories.

And to see Silas? I screamed and it’s literally 4 am. I was wondering if Caelum might have been Sky at some point because black hair and icy blue eyes but maybe not, I don’t think he would be using a fake name.

If you've read the Fallocaust series, you MUST read this!

Quil has done it again and succeeded in blurring the lines between good and evil. There are no real villains, just really messed up characters driven by their motivations and going to great lengths for them. And yet, he also managed to make our hearts fill with love and attachment to them.

People have been worried that this will be a Stockholm syndrome story, but in my opinion, it isn't or at least in this universe. Whatever Kheva did really was necessary and he did accomplish his goal to make Sasha stronger. It's just a nightcrawler thing and it wasn't nearly as bad as what he himself went through.

What still wasn't explained was HOW THE HECK do they have a lot of money? Nightcrawlers can control minds but to have a constant supply? And do they have to traumatize the people they control every time they need supplies?

Nate is a piece of shit and the fact that Jobe and Lex kept siding with him annoyed me, which was the point I guess. Sasha should've told them that Rob did threaten to kill them so they can realize how Rob is better off dead and Nate can just piss off.

I wish this story was longer, the world expanded. There is so much more that can be told and I wanted to see more of a connection between Kheva and Sasha. But this was a happy ending and I'll have to live with that. You can never have enough with Quil's stories and I wish that he'll never ever end the Fallocaust series. I'll read all of their stories, major and minor characters. But mostly, I'd really like to read about Silas before the Fallocaust and the story of his greatest love.

Please never stop writing, Quil! I love them, messed up and all.

When I saw the main character's name was Sasha, I had a niggling hope that this was Silas's old friend. As the story went on, I concluded that maybe Quil just really like the name. BUT!

I hate writing reviews because I suck at them but I make an effort in the hopes the books will become more visible to other readers - and Quil's books deserve to be seen. His world building is like none other. Silent Ground was soooooo good. It was everything I expect from a Quil Carter book - horrific, brutal with a few tender moments thrown in for good measure. This guy can write DARK and DEPRAVED like no one else.

Going into these two books I never could have imagined feeling anything but hate for both Kheva and Kel. But I was wrong - I loved them both - through all the bloody beatings, rape and torture they still endeared themselves to me. Kel is batshit CRAZY - so childlike and loving one moment and a lunatic the next. Kheva, while sadistic, was also there for Sasha anytime he needed him - I think that was Gabriel's doing to some degree. I appreciated seeing that side of him.

I was happy to see the growth in Sasha throughout the book - even though it was difficult for Lex and Jobe to accept. No more mister shy introvert - his powers were getting up to par with Kheva's towards the end of Part 2. I'm looking forward to seeing what role he plays in the upcoming Fallocaust books.

Aaaaaaand you get about a 30 second introduction to Silas - the man we all love to hate :)

The ending was absolutely perfect - it was a bloody mess getting there but so worth it!

Well, I guess I need to read Fallocaust now that I know they're related.

First of all, this book needed more editing. The first one was fine but this one has words in the wrong order, in the wrong tense or in one case missing a letter. My brain auto corrects for it but it was frequent enough that it was noticeable when it'd happen.

Second, holy fuck. This story (I'm going to refer to both books as one) had so many twists. Every time I thought I had it somewhat figured out I found out an hour or five later how wrong I was. I was constantly trying to figure out what the fuck was going on.

Third, there are NO good guys in these books. If you think there's anyone who is then you didn't read the same book I did. I, never in my life, thought I would ultimately want an MC with the people I considered the bad guys but Quil made me do it. Everyone here are just darker or lighter shades of grey.

The ending was so satisfying. If you told me the ending when I started the book I would have been up in arms and probably not read it honestly.

This was as just a crazy ride as the first book!

Kheva has a way of twisting into Sasha’s soul. One minute he shows that he cares and then next - torture, mayhem, murder. This sequel needs the same trigger caveat as the first- rape scenes that will nauseate you and make you wish you could reach through the book and rip out hearts.

Kheva, Kel and Sasha are so intertwined that you cannot imagine one without the other. I guessed where this story was going and was pretty close. Their journey was dark, intense and fascinating.

This story causes you to do a 180 in your thinking towards Kheva. You feel sorry for him which makes you want to fight against it knowing what happens to Sasha in the first book. In short, total mind fuck.

And when it all ends, you feel that everyone is exactly where they should be.

Love

Sasha and I could be personality twins, I think. The opening pages in the first book, holy crap, it could have been plucked from my brain matter—especially when I was a teen, but I still feel that way a lot now.

Enough about me. Sasha is completely relatable, from beginning to end. In this series, anyway. In Fallocaust, I didn’t particularly care for him.

I loved meeting everyone else, too, especially Gabriel.

Fantastic book.

So Good

Like is not straightforward white hats vs black hats and neither is this series. That's part of why I like it. The other reasons include it's well written, I care about the flawed characters - I heart Ke,l especially when he's not scaring me - and the whole fricking dark gestalt. Read!

I was a little disappointed with the slow pace of part 1, but this book made up for it plenty with some interesting conflicts and rewarding character development.

*Must have read Book 4 of Fallocaust Series*
All this book has accomplished is make me wait even more eagerly for the next main book of Fallocaust series. Now that I know who Sasha is, who Kheva and Kel really are, I really am eager to know how they separated in the first place. And what exactly was it that made Sasha leave Kheva. Also, Silas before Fallocaust. Like WOW! They is so much plot waiting to be explained.
Looking forward to more backstory too.

Couldn't put it down!

Wow, this book is intensely good! I found myself up reading in the wee hours, and losing several days of sleep trying to finish this gripping story.
Read it for the comp,ex characters. Read it for the incredibly imaginative world building.
Read it because we get to meet Silas, even of it is breifly. He's still so sassy, even his past self holds his head high.

I wonder how many future events could be explained by the events that took place in this book. Everything is connected so masterfully. I love the 3 characters, but Kel holds a special place in my heart ❤️
