Chicago, city of perpetual construction projects. What if the detour signs you are following are a trap? Sharon Perez is finally getting her big break to become a reporter for the Chicago Tribune. Kevin, a seasoned crime reporter has offered to share a breaking news story with her in hopes of sparking a relationship. As Sharon races toward the seedier side of town her G.P.S. guides her to Exit 141. An exit where she is kidnapped, drugged and next in line to face an unspeakable horror. Detectives Nick Stryker and Jen Taylor are called to a crime scene at an abandoned brewery. They find themselves standing over a young family entombed in blue hazmat body bags. The condition of their remains a testament to the evil they had encountered. This highly organized team of killers made two mistakes. The first was leaving a clue as to their identity; the second was committing murder in Detective Nick Stryker's jurisdiction. Nick and Jen frantically follow the one clue they have into a vapor trail of evidence and a storm of violence. As they peel through the layers of horror in the case they realize that Sharon is in the hands of the killers. With time running out and the forces of money and power aligned against them, Nick and Jen fight their way to the twisted and shocking truth

About the author

The ‘Shallow End Gals’ name was given to us by the bartender at a local tavern. We sit at the short end of the bar for storytelling and lunch a few times per week. This is where our stories are born and alcohol is not involved. There are now four of us; Teresa Duncan, Vicki Graybosch, Linda McGregor and Kimberly Troutman. On February 27, 2013 our friend and co-author Mary Hale unexpectedly passed.
Mary is the one in our picture with the white hair and a halo behind her. She was a retired teacher, a retired realtor, an inspirational friend and the first one to burst into song with the faintest of prompting.
Teresa Duncan is a professional with UPS, a world traveler, a fierce supporter of humanity, and the living definition of friend. Teresa has never met a stranger and has an acute curiosity about people and life. Teresa is definitely who you want to ‘have your back’ in times of need.
Linda McGregor is a retired mortgage professional, an employee of local government and a staunch supporter of family, human rights and the plights of the less fortunate. Gifted in crafts and art and blessed with an expansive sense of humor. Linda is a born negotiator.
Vicki Graybosch is a retired mortgage professional and an avid researcher. Her life experiences and observations of the world primarily come from her computer and the comfort of her desk chair these days. Blessed with the type of mind that seeks to unearth the unique and reshape it into something humorous or memorable, she has assumed the role of placing pen to paper for the group.
Kimberly Troutman, Vicki’s daughter, is a full time dealer at the local casino and much too young to be retired from anything. Her role in our group is to contribute her youthful perspectives, humor, and temper our devious plots.
The collective imaginations are powerful. The honest sharing of deeply held convictions is inspirational and motivational. Our goal is to tell stories in such a way that readers feel they have become one of our characters. We do not define our character’s race. All sex is behind closed doors and cursing is held to a minimum. Sound boring? Buy a book and hang on!
