Just out of college, Penelope Stewart takes a summer job as an office temp, with plans to go to med school in the fall. She thinks she has her future all mapped out-until she lays eyes on the man who signs her weekly timesheets.
David Powers has a way of making women change their plans. Dripping with money and charm, he has a list of former flames that reads like a society gossip column. But David also has his rules, and dating office secretaries falls strictly out of bounds. Not even pretty blond ones with sassy mouths, who inexplicably keep renewing their temp gigs every week...
Now two years later, Penny's still temping for a mysterious reason that she won't explain to her friends. What started as an innocent office flirtation has deepened further than either Penny or David would care to admit. Things change when Penny overhears lewd gossip about herself from coworkers. She quits abruptly, but she can't move past her memories of the man who haunts her every waking thought. David is left with a choice: Let her walk away, or set aside his rules and track her down.

I think Penny is just pathetic, i mean its OK to have a crush, or even fell in love with your boss, but to postpone your life, to what? see him have a parade of girls shown in from of you. in exchange of your dreams? nope, i don't get it, i guess at first when he got shot and she stay with him, instead of going to medical school like she was suppose to, Fine he was shot, and she loves him, she stays to take care of him for a couple of months... and then? What happen? why didn't she move on? why dint she told him she was accepted in Yale?, I mean YALE come on! you at least tell the guy that you are staying, giving up on your dreams for him, to see if really unrequited kind of love, you dont just stay for a couple of drunk emails, nobody is that selfless.

Well, the ending tried to make up for the entire book with its over the top sugary sweetness, but man! I felt like I was dragged through the wringer with Penny and David. Never had I read and never will I read a more stupid or infuriating h (I hope). Penny drove me up the wall and over the coals with her absolute lack of common sense, pride, sense of preservation and worth. Only my wretched completism got in the way of DNFing this a few times.
I liked this story, it was cute and short but also very frustrating. xD I'm pretty sure a lot of readers won't like the story but I had fun reading it. Sometimes I have to ignore reality and see a story as some kind of romantic fairytale and not a representation of the real world.
I'm saying this because the characters might not be for everyone. Penny set her life on pause, racked up credit card debt and stopped following her dream because of a man? The harsh truth would be that she is a pathic loser, the romantic truth that she is romantic? She probably is both but she shouldn't have let her life defined by a man. A man that didn't give her anything aside from some drunken or not so messages. He took her for granted and took everything she offered without giving anything in return. Yes, David might be in love with her but never acted on it. Went on date after date, after all she did for him. I still liked reading about him, but yeah, in real life he would not be a dream date. Well, sometimes I read romances to get some unrealistic and sappy story about some delusional woman in love. This is one of those 😏
One side note. This story is only available on wattpad and it's closed door and definitely not smutty at all (there is a bonus chapter though that is called "behind closed doors" that is available when signing up to the newsletter that is not smutty but still spicier 😁). So, there is no real reward to wait for them to finally sort their misunderstandings/non-communication of that sort. 😉
Meh... I don't usually read this type of book but I thought I'd give it a chance. I totally remember why this isn't my cup of tea. I actually skimmed that last 1/2 because I hate to DNF books even when they're bad.
Finished it in an evening and I’m amazed but how good it was!!! Although I think more angst can be added into the scene of revealing the thread mill!!!!! How is it sufficient 😩

Seems to be an unpopular opinion, but I loved the long back and forth between the characters! Call me a masochist, but slow burns are my JAM. I’ve read both the Wattpad and print version of this book, you can’t go wrong with either. I’ve read this book three or four times over the past few years and it’s still hard for me to grasp the frustration many feel about Penny’s decision making. There’s nothing wrong with feeling lost and overwhelmingly in love.

I... can't believe she gave up college, career and life for her boss. PLEASE get a grip on life Penny. The characters are so flawed they just deserve each other. The only book where I ended it and knew the couple was not gonna last. David is super ignorant, and Penny is straight up stupid. They don't really change by the end, she still flunks her exam and only passes when she's back with David like-
I'm confused whether to give it 2 cause I hate the characters or 3 because they were written well.

A simply wonderful book. I love how it depicts the vulnerability that comes with loving someone. Its a relatively slow burn but it is so worth the time. Plus, good use of multimedia.
Dull, lackluster characters. This story was drug-out so long and we never even got a sex scene. There seemed to be no reward for making it through all the angst. These two characters were boring as hell. She thought she wasn't good enough for him, he was too afraid to let her in. I hope this author understands that when we readers put this many hours into reading a book we need a climax of some sort. This book was so tame it could have been on the reading shelf of 12 year olds.
Great book! I listened to the audio book and I enjoyed it very much. The story was great and the characters were well developed. The narrative was amazing. I've listened to some that killed a great book for me. I would recommend this book.
