A Wiccan witch and a Vampire walk into a coffee shop.... No, this is not the start of a bad joke. On the contrary, this is the beginning of a great book. Zan and Mykhalo make an unusual couple. Throw in her teenage daughter and an Egyptian goddess, and you have an interesting set up.

The title is Deadly Conversations, with a heavy emphasis on the conversation part. Which is why I rated it a 4. The world building could have been broken up a bit more with action. But as the witch and the vampire compare notes on what is myth and what is the truth about their kind, the story moves smoothly. Knowing next to nothing about the Wiccan faith, I was not bored. And of course, I am always intrigued with what an author will do with the vampire tradition.

The editing could do with a tweak. Lots of misplaced commas.

Overall, I really enjoyed this book and have already purchased the second in the series,Whispers of Life.

Far from the usual vampire book. D.C. McLaughlin book has the suspense of a thriller, the twists and turns of a mystery as well as the nostalgia of the classic vampire. A great read.
