“Not yet! I can’t give up! Falling down is nothing to be ashamed of, the only shame would be in not getting up again!”

Finally getting to see Kise for a little while was so nice, and it showcases how he really is the strongest player, despite everything else. I just wish we had more of him more often.

The whole game between Seirin and Kaijo, while not revolutionary, has been really fun to see, and considering how much respect both teams have towards each other, specially Kagami, Kuroko, and Kise it sparks a different kind of dynamic than most of the other games have had.

It was refreshing.

However, if there was one thing that made me raise my eyebrows was that for a while now, a focal topic of the series has been to have fun with the game, to enjoy it, and that being the most valuable part, how there's no point in winning otherwise, which is a view I really like and appreciate. However, Rakuzan seems to immediately go against that key tenet, which is an interesting conflict, but does not endear them to my heart.

Seeing the state of things, I'm curious to see how all of this will end.

“I don’t care about villains or heroes or anything like that. Crap like that only decides the outcome of fairy tales. This is our play! And we’re writing the script!”

There's this line in the book that perfectly describes how I feel about these characters, "Are these really high school kids?!" (Pg 63)

These characters are insanely talented. There's the Miracle Generation, who all have these basketball superpowers developed since junior high. Then there's the Uncrowned Generals, who are almost as good as the MG. And then there's Taiga Kagami, who is developing and perfecting skills to force his way into the MG. The main character of this series is pretty hard to tell, since a lot of it is in 3rd POV, but it's actually Tetsuya Kuroko, the kid with the disappearing skills.

The character development is really good. I'm pretty proud of these guys because they see a challenge and want to give up because it's so daunting, but they don't because their teammates cheer them up and remind them of what they are doing. In these two volumes, the opposing team has a lot of the development but the very last page is our team's, Seirin High, turn. I can tell that it's going to be epic.

Story wise, this picks up pretty much directly after volume 20 which left us off mid-game against MG's Emperor's glare (or something). A team wins and we go directly into the next game, this time featuring Seirin High against Kaijo High. Their ace Kise (MG) has been diligently practicing his perfect copy. [he can watch someone do a maneuver and perfectly replicate it].

The game was very intense because of an unexpected sequence of events and I honestly don't know if Seirin can make it through this, but thanks to Kuroko's final words, I think we got something.

I love the art style. It's my favorite. The sketchy-ness of it and the shading is really good. I bet the author gets tired of drawing the boys in jerseys and bball shorts. You can tell the author knows what they are doing because of the "risky" or difficult angles they draw the scenes in. If I could draw like this, it would be great.

Overall, a fun read for basketball enthusiasts. It does have some sports cliches, but I don't mind because of how it plays out.

I really liked this volume. I thought the match with Midorima and Akashi would be a bit longer honestly but I enjoyed it. Seeing my faves Kagami, Kuroko and Kise again was so much fun. I really liked how Kise used his perfect copy even to the point of copying Kuroko. I also liked how he couldn’t use it the entire game and wanted to risk injury towards the end. I was honestly expecting their match to conclude in this volume but I’m still excited to see how this ends in the next volume. Overall another great volume.

At the time of this review, I have read the entire series.

Rakuzan vs. Shutoku Continues
By this point, we all know that it's Miracle Generation Member vs. Miracle Generation Member. At the end of the last volume, we saw Midorima do an IMPRESSIVE shot that was made possible by Takao. In this volume, we picked up right after we left off from the previous one. Akashi, can you please stop with variations of "My orders are absolute"? To quote Hades from Hercules, "We get it. We get the concept." This is almost bad as Murasakibara and his obsession with crushing people. We also see Akashi is quite arrogant: "I Am Absolute. I See All That Will Come to Pass. Changing Fate Is A Simple Matter." Excuse you, you are not God, which means you do not "see all." You are still a human being, a gifted one, but you are still human.

Page 37 is good example that he is human. Basically, you can say Akashi employs the same skills as Sherlock Holmes. While Sherlock Holmes has a wide spread knowledge of different topics, Akashi's focus is on how people move in basketball and the probability of them choosing a certain path. This means doing the unexpected should help slow down Akashi and his emperor eye. Akashi's line on page 45 is chilling and a bit condescending.

"Winning is everything. So I must look at you and your comrades as enemies." This is SUCH AN UNHEALTHY way of looking at winning! This is in direct contrast with the other two sports manga that I have read. Slam Dunk wants to win for it meets their captain's goal. Haikyuu views winning as another chance to play the game that they love as well as doing it with their friends, which I think is the more healthier way of viewing winning.

Pages 54-55, once again showcases the friendship of Midorima and Takao. It also shows how young Midorima looks. This demonstrates that despite their talent they are teenage boys! Keyword, there: boys.

Kaijo vs. Seirin Game Begins!
But first, some declarations of war. Kise fires the first shot, which is answered by Kagami with an assist from Kuroko. This reminds me of something that Sakuragi did in Slam Dunk. Kaijo's Captain gained some respect for Hyuga as seen in this line: "This guy always gave it his all, but I got the feeling he was a little too green to be captain. But that handshake, just now...to go with that piercing stare...It makes sense given how hard they've fought to get here. They ain't gonna make this easy for us." What I like about the teams' introductions this time around is the nicknames. Seirin is the Miracle Supernovas and Kaijo is the Blue Elites.

"Kise-kun is really amazing...and this is a complete loss. It's so overwhelming...I can't help but smile." I am not sure what to make of this line from Kuroko. I guess the smiling means you are going up against someone challenges you, which can be an exciting thing. In that sense, I guess that is the more correct attitude, instead of feeling a sense of coming doom.

Coach Riko channeling Coach Anzai. Riko noticed that her boys were about to get sloppy by going fast. She did this by substituting a different player, which gave us this line: "'Nervous' is just another way of saying...that he's extra careful!" He also earned the respect of Kaijo's Captain: "He's a far cry from an orthodox point guard like Izuki. I sensed it from just before they attacked the basket...He patches up mistakes and avoids danger. Basically, he's good at coming to his teammates' aid."

Hyuga: "Izuki started playing back in second grade, meaning he's played longer than any of us."
Kiyoshi: "Huh?"
Hyuga: "So don't worry. A little setback like this won't keep him down. He's Put More On The Line For Basketball Than Any Of Us. TELLING HIM TO DO HIS BEST WOULD JUST BE INSULTING." I like this for the attitude of it all.

Intermission
We take a moment to flash to Momoi and Aomine, where Aomine gets philosophical. "I know it ain't like me to ask. Just been thinking, lately. Is it really just a coincidence that the whole Miracle Generation, including Tetsu, came together again? I dunno if it's s'posed to mean something, but...Definitely feels like it. Being on the same team, once. And then facing off as enemies. Meeting up at this tourney. It's like...Destiny is really a thing...Then Kagami Showing Up Has Gotta Be Part Of That Too...He's cut from the same cloth as the rest of us. But he was never part of our little gang. He's got the same gifts we do. The last one to awaken. A Non-Miracle Miracle. And...Since He Met Up With That Shadow Of Destiny...A TRUE LIGHT."

This piece from Aomine has a lot of stuff in it that could be looked at a few different levels. First level is from the point view of the story. Kuroko wants to beat everyone from his old team to prove a point. In that sense, the author had to make them meet up again, but this could have taken years or happen when they were third years. Second level is what story did the author want to tell. Yes, it is about basketball, but you can say it is also about friendship, bonds between teammates, and what can poison those bonds. This leads to the question how do you heal those bonds and extract the poison. Well, they have to see other and since the poison came from basketball then basketball must be the solution. This is similar to Naruto, which was also about healing a rift between brothers. The third level is from the point of reality, which is saying these events are happening in our world. On this level, you have to get to my level, where God exists. God has a plan for everyone and for this plan it is vital that the Miracle Generation needs to be healed, which involves Kuroko, naturally, and Kagami.

Resume Play
"The first time we met...I got this feeling...But then I started having doubts during our first real battle. After all that though, now I'm more sure than ever. This guy measures up to...Miracle Generation Standards. He arrived at this point by a totally different path...than us, the Miracle Generation. And that's why I'm so darn sure...and why my instincts are screaming at me!!! Out of everyone this guy is someone...I don't wanna lose to!" This line from Kise relates to my above paragraph and the third level. Kagami is someone who represents the entire Miracle Generation, except for one detail. He may have wavered when it comes to Kuroko's part, but he never actually broke ties. This is very different from the Miracle Generation.

Page 262 we get something from Kaijo's coach that speaks to another theme that is present throughout this entire series: teamwork. Huh? But it's a TEAM sport of course it is going to talk about teamwork. No, not necessarily. As the characters already talked about, you can have a bunch of individuals doing their thing and not even have the players come together as a team at least in this sport. Other sports it is completely different as you can see in Haikyu!!. The very nature of volleyball requires all the pieces working together. Seirin knows teamwork and learn how to be stronger individual players to make the team work even better even with someone on par with the Miracle Generation. They are proof to other teams with a Miracle Generation member that teamwork is VITAL to success. I will talk more about teams and teamwork in the last volume.

"The worse the fights, the better the friends." Then Hinata and Kageyama has one of the best friendships in the world then at least according to Izuki. On pages 276-279, we see Kiyoshi and Hyuga essentially acting like Hinata and Kageyama when they call each other out about how they are playing. Now I wouldn't use this line on them to describe their role in Karasuno, but I do like it for Hyuga and Kiyoshi: "They're the two pillars who brought Seirin's newly formed team as far as the finals league. We can count on them." That is a powerful line paired with a cool shot of Hyuga's and Kiyoshi's backs.

While he is not exactly on good terms with Kuroko or Kise and Kuroko is not considered a Miracle Generation member, Aomine views them as the "big-time players."
Aomine: "Lucky us, Satsuki."
Momoi: "Huh?"
Aomine: "We're just in time to see the big-time players perform on the stage...IT'S THE CLIMAX!"

Final Thoughts
Kuroko still has his cool even though he is not exactly sure what he can do, yet. Then we get a teaser that he may know how to break Kise's perfect copy.

Verdict: So good!

I really enjoyed the game between Rakuzan and Shutoku, the Seirin vs Kaijo, not so much.

I thoroughly enjoyed this one definitely one of my favorites that I’ve read so far. The first match was great. Obviously we’re still having to learn about the other team, but that’s to be expected. But the Kaijo Serin match is electrifying and I feel like the issue and they don’t have a really good no worries not ended on a good not I’m not expecting too much so I don’t feel like I’m left on a cliffhanger, but still place where I’m excited to see where it goes. There’s so many little emotional moments that I really appreciated between the teams and their players. A solid read
