"But you know you're hardly alone in that. Most people don't know themselves terribly well. . . . The reason is usually buried somewhere within, but the idea of digging around for it is too scary."

I really really wish I could have read this series when I was in high school. The whole conversation about emotions and what we feel being NORMAL (even when we associate them with "negative" emotions) is something I desperately needed to hear in my teen years when I was struggling with things going on in my home. I didn't think it was right to feel angry at circumstances I was forced in, but this volume really shows that it's normal to FEEL that way, but it's how you ACT when you feel that way that matters most. I only learned of accepting your feelings and emotions as valid a few years ago and genuinely think it could have been more life-changing if I could have known that sooner.

I'm finding the more I read these volumes, the harder it is becoming to differentiate between reality and fiction. And what I mean is that I feel there are SOOO many great truths or lessons in these volumes that I find it difficult to just focus on Fumi's story for "enjoyment" rather than applying things she learns and acts in my own life. I'm not a "Queen" like she is (obviously LOL) but when Granny was telling Fumi how we all have to face the darker parts of ourselves no matter how uncomfortable it is, really spoke a lot to me personally.

And speaking of Granny, I LOVE her in this series! She is so wise and comforting and have deeply appreciated her presence in this series. I find it very refreshing to have an older character that deeply influences the younger leads.

Honestly, the whole adult cast of the Genbu Gate does that (though I think we can all agree that Takaya sure can be shady in how he helps Fumi LOL)! You truly see a community of people come together and speak life into a character who feels lost, insecure at times, and unsure. There is definitely a strong emphasis on taking care of your mental health and always being on guard, but there is equally an importance of being open and being yourself with a community you trust. We often see that with Kyutaro and Fumi's relationship the MOST, but also I think it's shown a lot with Kyutaro's family too.

Even if at times this was a pretty heavy volume, it's so thought-provoking that I'm already looking forward to reading another volume tomorrow!

This is a review of volumes 1-3 which I read together back to back. See the plot section for my thoughts on the individual volumes.

From the mangka who brought us Dengeki Daisy is a new series in the same vein. Fumi lives with Kyutaro, a boy her own age, and his family of Sweepers, people who specialize in cleaning the minds of those overcome by negative energy and harmful spirits. An orphan with a forgotten past, Fumi is on the hunt for a "prince" but as she becomes more and more the Queen Kyutaro is the only one who can help her control awakening powers... Will she start falling for him?

The art is very reminiscent of Dengeki Daisy, which is no surprise since that is Kyousuke Motomi's style! And frankly I love it! She knows how to design characters that stand out with allies who win you over quickly. I enjoy the balance of comedy and series dramatic moments that keep us guessing. The art provides this really great setting for the story to live in... and I'm quite in love with the freaky bugs and the infested people! It adds this element that DD didn't have that makes the world feel fresh and new, a great thing for a new series.

The characters are quite authentic! Fumi’s fears are so relatable and female empowering while not making Kyutaro (Q) a flat love interest! She doesn’t want to disappoint and be left alone, but she MUST learn about her family and her past so she bravely faces what is coming, which I quite love. Kyutaro has a totally different problem in that he knows too much... or at least thinks he does. If that mystery continues to advance in Motomi fashion then we we really be rooting for these two by the end...

Fact of the matter, I totally ship these two already. They have these lovely romantic moments that paired with their past history makes for some lovely tension! Then we have the villains which are quite well developed. I love the depth they have... in their brother-sister relationship and how they conflict over his moral code. Then we have the sweeper rivals who want to hold the Queens power for their clan. But its the different queens that make this super powerful! You want to see where Fumi takes this female empowerment...

In volume 1, Fumi gets thrust right into the action as she has to face the darkness inside of herself. This was so, so good! Fumi and Kyutaro have to work together and you really start to see that bond... as well as the forces she is up against. And we learn a lot about the basics of sweeping through this and volume 2. I loved how the handler villain's own morals play against him but also his motivation plays against Fumi and Kyutaro's goals too! So good! In volume 3, we get more of the mixed bag that Motomi does so well... there is more family met, sweeper world building and even a cute aside about cleaning! Plus a major revelation about Fumi's queen problem... This 3 volume arc sets up the premise so well and seriously makes me want to root for these two and their clan.

I originally read volume 1-3 so that I could get into volume 4 which I have as an eARC but as I delved into these volumes I found myself hooked on Kyousuke Motomi's style once again... her art style, her character style and especially her story style! Queen's Quality has her humor, her humanity and her action with a nice side of the supernatural... so get in here and start cleaning!

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Authenticity
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Tension
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Plot
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Art

Vol. 1 ★★★☆☆
Vol. 2 ★★★☆☆

I realized what my problem with the last volume was. There isn't enough of Black Queen Fumi. On one hand, this whole volume is all about how emotions aren't inherently bad and it's only when they are out of control that you have to worry. That said, it's incredibly satisfying to see the Black Queen make an appearance. On top of that, the romantic tension between Fumi and Kyutaro is just off the charts. The way they're both pining for each other but think the other person can't possibly return their feelings? Just delicious. While Kyutaro can be awkward at times, he's just so sweet and kind. He's really grown on me and I totally understand why Fumi is in love him.

This is still on-going, I guess? The end of volume 3 doesn't give a satisfying conclusion. I hope there will be more romantic scenes between the queen and her master 😏💕
I heard this manga is the sequel of QQSweeper; but I haven't read that one 😐

I love this series more with every volume.

the expressiveness of the art, the dark (and this volume is probably the darkest so far) dark darkness, and the adolescent humor that doesn't veer into fan service (thank you) make a perfect combination. I just wanted this to keep going and was really disappointed to reach the end of this volume.

the author's comments are hysterical - both about the characters, the art (oops, as a child she was depicted as a blond, now her hair is black, so uh, maybe she colored it? but explaining that her hair needs to be black now and why - and it makes sense - but her self-deprecating is so funny), and about herself (sometimes I hallucinate a little when I'm working) - I especially look forward to the monthly notes between chapters. "Koichi's shirt ruins everything" - okay, these little preview comments seem to make no sense but then they do, and they are great. and the window cleaning chapter? I smile just thinking about it.

bring on volume four, please . . .

....Grilled...Fish....

There was some intense moments, but the humor was fantastic!
I like the series, there is great insight on the human psyche and even better insight on how to handle negative vs positive.

Today's post is on Queen's Quality volume 3 by Kyousuke Motomi. It is 192 pages long and is published by Shojo Beat. It is the third in Kyousuke's new series, Queen's Quality, you need to have read the first two volumes and previous series in order to understand what is going on. The cover has the main two characters on it looking at the reader. The intended reader is someone who has read QQ Sweeper, likes shojo manga, and supernatural love stories. There is no foul language, no sex, and mild violence in this book. The story is told from third person close of the two main characters moving as the story goes on. There Be Spoilers Ahead.

From the back of the book- Fumi finds out that she has both a White Queen and a Black Queen inside of her, and she must train her mind and body in order to becomes a the true Queen. Kyutaro vows to protect Fumi, but will he be able to do anything when other gatekeepers go after her power?

Review- Lots of world-building in this volume with other gatekeepers and learning more about what happened ten years ago. Fumi is scared but because it is Fumi, she just plows on into her future whatever happens, she trusts Kyutaro to help her and protect her from herself. She is tested and 'fails' by another gatekeeper clan but I think that they are the failures. They made the Black Queen rise up out of Fumi as a protector to stop them from harming and maybe even killing Fumi. Kyutaro's family feels the same way, that tormenting Fumi is not the right way to test her. I know that we will see the Seiryu family again but I hope they stay background characters. I really like our main characters too much to have less of them.

I give this volume a Five out of Five stars. I get nothing for my review and I bought this manga with my own money.

Only three volumes in, the central metaphor is already starting to feel strained. At this point, I'm not sure if the internecine warfare between Genbu, Byakko, et al., is essentially about different psychotherapy techniques, or what. Every method has its own problems. For example: confronting the extreme emotions within ourselves, and not letting them overwhelm us or make us indulge in unhealthy behaviors is, very obviously, fine. Killing them, though? Is that desirable, or even possible?

Well, we'll see how those questions are approached as we go along. I did like how the Black Queen, as shown inside of Yumi's psyche, is . And I continue to be very fond of the main couple and their relationship, though I'd like to see a bit more vulnerability and growth on Kyuusuke's side, to make their inevitable coming together feel more fitting and romantic.

I am reading this series for my middle school students. I like the pacing of the story and how the characters monitor their growth as cleaners and as members of a team. There is just enough romance and plenty of self deprecating humor. The author’s side comments are hilarious. Kyousuke Motomi does a great job of not taking her work too seriously but yet conveys valuable insights into emotions and responsibilities. I especially appreciate the themes of keeping your mind and environment clean and tidy. Volume three has excellent instructions on how to clean windows!

Ah-mah-zing.

This hits just all of the right buttons.

Also I really like 'this person is feral and only I can control them'- trope. I liked it in Beast Master, Vol. 1 and I'm glad to see it again in this series!

Art dan cerita karya-karya Motomi-sensei selalu kereeen, ada lucu, ada tegangnya juga, romensnya pun manis, gak vulgar dan gak berlebihan.

ITS SO GOOD!!!
Ahhhh Fumi loves Kyutaro...
and he loves .... her? Or is it Fuyu?

Anyway, in this volume we get more bad ass black queen. I just can’t shake the thought that the black queen isn’t necessarily “evil”.

I really appreciate how Motomi’s characters are really good at communicating with each other. there are secrets (for plot reasons) but the characters talk about their feelings all the time. it’s refreshing. there’s also some really good life lessons in this series.

It started out slow and it got better. I tend to like the darker parts where the black queen comes out and the FL has to face some inner issues. I hope the intensity ramps up a bit because the series might be a little too tame for my taste.

Still love this series. This volume does have more action in it (gets graphic but not very explicit), and Fumi's character gets more fleshed out which I appreciated.
