This book was really fun! The spell stuff was a little weird for me since they were in a regular high school. It wasn't like it was a fantasy world. But even with my dislike of the love potion idea I still really liked this book. It had a lot more depth to it than I expected.

Evie was a freshman and Parvani was her best friend who had a crush on Jordan, Evie's childhood friend. I liked that Evie and Jordan had a history. They played together as little kids and had a ton of memories of going to theme parks and playing at each other's houses, too cute. Then they had a fall out in junior high, definitely relatable. Most of us probably had elementary school friends we weren't friends with by high school. Parvani was a little naive and a freshman so she thought she should give Jordan a love potion. Evie didn't always make the best choices, but hey she was young and allowed to make silly mistakes especially while grieving the death of her father.

My favorite scenes were during the capture the flag games, so fun. It brought back a bunch of memories for me. One thing that drove me crazy throughout the book was that Jordan said "like" too much. It was easily ignored though.

I highly recommend this enjoyable book! If you're in the mood for a fun, young high school book with a little spell action go check it out.

I really enjoyed this book. It was a fun, sweet YA with a protagonist who is just starting to learn about herself - with the help of some magic. The only thing I had trouble with is sometimes it seemed like her dad just died, but other times it did seem like it was really two years ago.

⚫️Ariella Moon’s Spell Check is a delightful and enchanting start to The Teen Wytche Saga that beautifully blends the trials of teenage life with the allure of magic. The story follows Evie, a high school senior struggling with personal grief, a turbulent friendship, and a secret crush on her lab partner, Jordan. As the anniversary of her father's death looms and Halloween draws near, Evie must juggle her duties as Yearbook Photo Editor and navigate the complexities of her relationships. But when her best friend Parvani casts a love spell on Jordan, Evie’s world is thrown into turmoil, and she must race against time to stop the magic from taking over.

⚫️The book's strength lies in its relatable and well-developed characters. Evie is a strong, empathetic protagonist who feels realshe’s trying to stay true to herself while balancing friendship, romance, and her own personal challenges. The friendship dynamic between Evie and Parvani is especially well-crafted, capturing both the warmth and the tension that comes with growing up. Parvani’s decision to cast a spell on Jordan adds a layer of complexity to their relationship, making for a compelling emotional conflict.

The romantic tension between Evie and Jordan is palpable, and their chemistry leaps off the page. Their slow-burn connection is both sweet and intense, making readers root for them from the start. The presence of magic adds a fun and intriguing twist, with Moon using the supernatural elements to enhance rather than overshadow the emotional beats of the story.

⚫️The pacing of the book is spot-on, keeping readers engaged without feeling rushed. The upcoming Halloween setting adds a perfect touch of mystery, and the buildup to the spell’s potential consequences keeps the stakes high. The combination of magical realism with high school drama makes for a thoroughly enjoyable and immersive read.

⚫️Ariella Moon has created a world that is both magical and grounded in reality, striking a perfect balance between fantasy and the complexities of teen life. Spell Check is a must-read for fans of YA romance and paranormal fiction, and I can't wait to see what happens next in the Teen Wytche Saga .

Highly recommended!

Happy reading ❤️✨

This is my first book by the author. Admittedly, it probably isn't fair, but I wasn't in love with it. That is because a lot of what happens seems either really extreme or too simple. For example, I don't think a magic book would work for just about anyone and the fact that 3 girls were able to cast spells, especially one as complicated as a love spell doesn't make sense. Then there is Evie. She likes Jordan and always has, but rather than tell Parvani, she keeps silent and just "hopes" things will work out. I get it. This is a book for young teens, first love, etc. and maybe I was in a bad mood when I read it, but outside of Salem, who was my favorite character, it just didn't hit my "feel good and really enjoyed" this meter.

SO FINALLY HERE'S MY REVIEW. FINALLY
PARVANI IS SO STUPID AND ANNOYING!!! ughhh, can't get enough of this book but its good anyways..

Evie O' Reilly (she's the protagonist) being a supportive, loyal and a good friend to Parvani Hyde-Smith her bestfriend agreed on buying a witch craft book, now the so called Teen Wytche paperback book who appeared normal when Evie bought it in the Well-read store but when she went home that day the book became a grimoire photo album sized book, and in order to help her bestfriend "Parvani" cast a love Spell on Jordan Kent, her childhood friend and secret crush. Upon being engrossed in finding every items that is listed on the book for casting a love spell, there they met Sarah Miller or Salem, a goth who knows how to perform magic. But what could go wrong if you cast a magic even if you know it may not work? But then something happened. Casting a spell and doing it wrong can cause karma. Evie tried to stop Parvani but then Parvani avoided her and became unstoppable. And when she Cast the love spell, everything goes wrong. Parvani became unhappy tied together with Jordan but with the help of Salem. Together, Salem, Evie and Parvani broke the spell and cast the spell right according to the book, where in you have to recite the qualities of a true love you seek. Then everything went to normal and they became happy..

Ooops. I should just write in the summary ending that they live happily ever after *mark the sarcasm*. And by the way its a good book, I reckon you all to read it. I wonder why Evie and Parvani are bestfriends, because all I can see and get the point when I read the book is that, Parvani is very persuasive and want to get all her ways to be done. I really find her annoying, if she wants to cast a love spell, in the fist place. She should be the one who should buy a spell book and other materials needed and not with the help of her bestfriend, who forced to help with all her dramas and stuff. I hate the drama part in this story where in Evie is being a loner but she has her friend Zhu with her and also the "You cast the two of them a love spell" thingy between Parvani and Evie had. When they had fight.

I just wanted to add something in my review.. The Two Most Awkward Situation In Spell Check Between Evie and Jordan

Entry #1 Awkward situation.... (Keep reading)

"Okay, Im ready" I sat down and reached for my water, "What do we do ?" -Evie

"Make lots of Babies" -Jordan

I had just just taken a sip of water and nearly nearly spit on him, covering my mouth just in time. Liquid dripped down my chin as a blush flamed my cheeks.

Jordan laughed "Got you"

Hahaha, can't stop laughin' at this. Super Awkward moment, between the two. Especially when Evie was drinking water that time. And Makin' Babies? Haha, that sure is funny.

Last Entry

"Evie". He managed to convey love, need, apology, relief, and joy all in the way he said my name.

I melted into his arms. The chill night air clung to him, so I tightened the embrace, willing my warmth to seep into him. He sighed against me and pressed his forehead to mine. His lips were close so close.

"Ahem".

Mom! I had forgotten about her, Jordan and I eased apart.

Gush, That was a super awkward situation #2 and guess what they're in front her mother. hahaha.

Wouldn’t it be great if it were possible to put a love spell on someone to make them fall for you? What if your best friend wants to put a love spell on the guy you have fallen for because she has a crush on him?

Evie O’Reilly has a big problem – her best friend Parvani Hyde-Smith wants Evie to help her cast a spell on Jordan Kent because Parvani has a huge crush on him. She's totally unaware that Evie is beginning to have feelings for Jordan. Evie actually doesn’t realize it either, until things start to go wrong and it might be too late for her to make those feelings known.

Evie is a freshman at Jefferson High. Her father, Dash O’Reilly, was a famous photographer killed in action almost two years ago. Her mother makes greeting cards to pay the bills. Evie takes after her father, photographing events for the school yearbook where she's the photo editor. She's been friends with Jordan Kent since preschool. They even went to Disneyland together when they were little. Jordan is athletic, plays football, and is very smart. He's in Honors Geometry with Parvani and Zhù Wong. Something changed as Evie and Jordan grew up, ending their closeness so that they stopped hanging out together. Then, when the Smash Heads (aka Jordan’s teammates Evan and Tommy) start bothering Evie, Jordan comes to her rescue. Unfortunately, misunderstandings and a jealous friend jeopardizes their growing relationship and Jordan comes down with a mysterious illness.

The supporting characters of Parvani, Zhù, Sarah (aka Salem), and Miss Ravenwood add interesting parts to the story. Parvani casts a spell even though she's not fully aware of the inherent dangers. Zhù has a secret that Evie has to keep even though she's not privy to all of it. Miss Ravenwood has links to Evie that Evie and Parvani stumble upon, changing Evie’s view of her past. The world seems to go out of control and Evie feels helpless to right all the wrongs.

Ms. Moon tells a wonderful, entrancing story that was a bit slow getting to the action, but that was necessary to show the effects of Dash O’Reilly’s death on his daughter. She was in shock at first and took a while to get back into her own life. It was worth the wait because then we were in for a rollercoaster of emotions with all that happens to Evie and her friends. The descriptions of Evie and her friends made me laugh because their actions and speech were so similar to teenagers who I know (and love). Then the feelings that Evie had for Jordan reminded me of how first love feels, giddy and sweet.

Spell Check is a great story for the young adult or the young at heart. I enjoyed the vicarious experience of falling in love, dealing with secrets, and working out best friend issues. Evie’s father dying young does punctuate the need for Evie to live life to the fullest and go after what she wants once she wakes up from her sorrow. It’s food for thought for the rest of us as we enjoy Evie’s spell binding adventure.

Spell Check is a YA, paranormal story with high school as a background setting. It is full of drama, romance and friendships. The characters seem like real teens. I like Evie. they are dealing with real issues and some that are not real. It is also a clean fast read.

Evie O'Reilly is the central character. Her father died over in Afghanistan. He was a photographer. Evie is too but since her dad died she has not picked up a camera. She has panic attacks. Evie's best friend is Parvani. She likes Jordan they have been close since they were 5 years old.

Parvani Hyde-Smith has a major crush on Jordan she wants Evie to buy a spellbook. She want to cast a love spell on Jordan.

Jordan's family and Evie's have been friends. Jordan is a athlete & skate boarder. He and Evie have not been close the last couple of years. He tries to reach out to her.

Salem is a goth. She helps Evie and warns her to never too a love spell with a person in mind.

Evie has problems at school with bullies, two classes not including yearbook. She also has friends who help her and does really well in her other classes.

This has a range of emotional scenes. It has some cute ones too. I am so glad I am not in high school. I can't wait to start the next book in the series.

I was given this ebook to read by the author and in return I agreed to give honest review of Spell Check.

Thank goodness for mature teens in a YA book! There are so many YA books out there where the teens are written in such a childish manner (much younger than their ages), that it was refreshing to read a good YA paranormal story with characters that actually have brains-and use them. Put that together with some great writing and a cool storyline, and you get Spell Check.

I wonder a bit at how accepting teens can be about magic and spells being real, but their innocence and willingness to believe makes this story work. The author weaves an engrossing tale, including some really great concepts from real-life Wicca to give the story a very authentic touch. This along with the heavier topic of the loss of Evie's father helps shape a really great story that anyone from teens on up can enjoy.

I really liked all of the characters, though from time to time Parvani's attitude did wear a little on me, and the way Jordan talked seemed a bit annoying. Evie and Salem were my favorites (I'm so glad Salem gets to be the focus of book 2!), and I enjoyed seeing Evie's journey through the story.

A solid 4-star read, recommended for teens and above-especially if you're a fan of the YA paranormal romance genre.

I got this book from the publisher, free of cost, in exchange of an honest review from my side.

Firstly I would like to thank the publisher and the author for giving me this opportunity of reading and reviewing this book.

I loved the concept very much and the twist of modern world with ancient magic and fantasy world was humorous and exciting as well.

Being in a high school it's obvious that every girl will have a secret crush but when you and your best friend develop the secret crush for the same boy? Well that calls for grave danger. The same thing happens with Evie. Will she able to save Jordon from the love spell that her BFF is planning on using on him to make him fall for her? What will happen next?

The read was really exciting and interesting and I enjoyed the high school vibe that I got from reading this story. Cat fights and fighting over a single boy, well it's been years now and I really miss this very much but reading this fantastic read made me relive those moments well excluding the magic potion and spells part.

Definitely a great read that can be enjoyed by all and I hope that you guys will love it too.

I have had my eye on this series for awhile, so I was beyond excited when I was able to join the blog tour for the upcoming third installment in the series! This first book Spell Check is a great YA book about a girl named Evie who lost her Dad while he was on a photography assignment in Afghanistan. Evie's best friend Parvani and their friend Zhu and Jordan ( both girls' crushes) round out the main characters. All of the fun and craziness begins when Parvani convinces Evie to help her cast a love spell. What could go wrong? Or maybe the question is what can go right? This fun YA novel about friendship, love and a little bit of magic is a great read that I think anyone will enjoy! I received a copy of this book as a part of a blog tour; all thoughts and opinions are my own.

Spell Check
Teen Wytche Saga #1

This book reminded me of the books I used to read as a teenager, and showed me how much I missed witchcraft stories. I loved how the magic and spells wasn’t too overwhelming, it was much more subtle, leaving me to grow attached to the characters and get to know their past and how they came to be who they are today. With the writing style and descriptive nature, this book held me captive, and I loved every part of it from start to finish.

I received an e-copy from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

Fascinating story

Not my usual choice in reading but the story kept my interest. Flawed characters, courage and tenacity are an excellent combination.
