At Sunrise: Summer Desserts / Temptation (Audio CD) by Nora Roberts (Goodreads Author), read by Alyson Silverman and Nellie Chalfant
This book was boring and I finally gave up. Summer is boring and stupid. Blake is the standard male lead. I don't know if the reader, Alyson Silverman, made it worse or if it was that bad all by itself. Life is too short to waste on boring books. I didn't even make it to the 2nd story. Moving on.
The first story was one of my favorites to go back to. The second was new for me. I enjoyed the parallel of strong women in each. Who dont need anyone but themselves and still find their perfect match. These stories pair well together and give a warm feeling as I read.
Nora Roberts is great. She knows her stuff. These have all the elements of a great romance: opposites attract, a single central thematic elements, supporting characters that draw out the flaws and strengths of the main characters, forced proximity leading to tension, the grand gesture, etc, etc.
Unfortunately, I just didn't feel it. The paint-by-numbers method works more often than not in a romance, but sometimes it also falls flat. There needed to be something interesting or extra or convention breaking or some serious chemistry to push this past 3 stars.
This book actually contains 2 separate stand alone Nora Roberts novellas published together. I prefer her novels, but for brain candy/brain break/brain vacation this was quite satisfying. Not my favorite Roberts, but not everyone can be a stand out. Enjoyable, none the less and perfect for what it is.
I enjoyed both stories, as I always do Roberts' romances. They are a nice break from the thrillers that my book club sometimes picks. These stories were lots of fun.
