You Are Beloved: Living in the Freedom of God’s Grace, Mercy, and Love

Rate this book
You're not what you do. You're not what you have. You are not what others say about you. You are God's beloved. Are you ever concerned that you don’t deserve to love and be loved because you are continually having to prove yourself? In You Are Beloved , Bobby Schuller shows you how to let go of these fears and put your trust in the One who sees you for who you really are. Here is an easy to follow, proven path to personal dignity for all those who think they are not good enough no matter how much they achieve. This path is illuminated by the truths that it is not about what you accomplish, but what has already been accomplished for you; not about what you have, but what has already been provided; and not about who others say you are, but who God says you are. Know that you are valued, cared for, and embraced. You Are Beloved will help you rebuild your life as a response to that assurance.

No, I am not deconstructing my faith. No, I am not burning the patriarchy. No, I do not have critical or derogatory comments for the Church. BUT. After reading Bobby Schuller’s “You Are Beloved” I am starting to view God in a new and very welcome way. I was raised in the Church. I’ve followed Jesus since the age of 10. I have always struggled to view God as anything other than an entity to fear and appease. I have not believed God particularly liked me at all.

Someone dear to me gave me this book to read, and dare I say it just may be changing my entire life? I’m still hesitant. Definitely holding on to a healthy dose of skepticism. However, the main idea is this - and if true, it grants total freedom:
“I’m not what I do. I’m not what I have. I’m not what people say about me. I am the Beloved of God. It’s who I am. No one can take it from me. I don’t have to worry. I don’t have to hurry. I can trust my friend Jesus. And share His love with the world.” *Mic drop*

This heralds back to the simple truth that Jesus loves me, this I know, for the Bible tells me so…God loves ME, who I was before I knew him, who I am now, just because. He assures me I am beloved, and I belong. Not in order to make me fall in line. Not in order to even bring glory to himself. He delights in me just because. Full stop. Because of this security of belonging and being beloved, my heart rejoices, which produces the byproducts of glory and obedience to Him.

Church, fellow Jesus-lovers, friends questioning and friends who don’t care at all - let’s make sure we are majoring on the majors not the minors. God IS love incarnate. He IS Truth incarnate. His character is what draws us in. How about we spotlight that? Thanks for doing just that, Bobby.

This Book is a Blessing

Bobby Schuller arranged this book quite nicely. He also uses Biblical passages and examples, plus contemporary examples, including ones from his personal life. He even used humor, as in the story of the medical students who thought they had every disease in the book, one even thought he was going through menopause. I was LOL on that one.

Bobby Schuller does have some contradictions, however. At first he writes of napping as if it were a bad habit, a form of escapism. Later he refers to Jesus napping and says rest is good. Between these contradictions he describes how he is sleep deprived, never quite getting enough sleep each night. Bobby Schuller, you need some rest! Being sleep deprived is not good. Driving with too little sleep is dangerous. God wants us to rest when we need to. Jesus taught this by example and by encouraging his disciples to rest.

I was encouraged by this book. Now I wake up each morning with joy, knowing I am the beloved of God. I still have a worrying problem, but am learning to give my cares to God.

One of my new absolute favorites! Filled with so much goodness; it covers topics that make me think introspectively of my own life without feeling heavy, & Bobby’s writing style is very personable. It was like having an insightful & encouraging conversation with a friend! Will definitely be going back to this one.

This has gotta be one of my favorite christian books yet. I felt so loved and wanted while reading this, Bobby has an amazing writing style and it really felt like he was in the room telling me these things. I learned a lot about myself and the people around me through reading this and I find it could be sooo beneficial to anyone out there questioning their worth like I do. You are beloved 🩷

The e-galley that I received was unreadable (formatting glitches) but I really wanted to read this book and so I ended up buying my own copy. I thoroughly enjoy Bobby Schuller's preaching and this was my first time reading one of his books. I will definitely read more of his in the future.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for my copy.
