Was Jesus Christ really who he claimed to be? Dr. Jeremiah BarJobe, a theoretical physicist who worked for the CIA, spent years torn between his scientific and religious beliefs. After the death of his wife, while on assignment near the Arctic Circle, he loses faith in a loving God. He becomes a drunkard and quits his job at the CIA.
A European company offers Jeremiah a chance to head and develop something he dreamed about in graduate school at Cal Tech. Maybe, just maybe he could turn his life around and prove the validity of his PhD thesis on time travel. Once the machine was built, it might be possible for him to satisfy a lifelong desire to go back in time and be the one to discover if Christ was who he claimed to be, or was the whole story about Jesus a lie?
Three years passed. Animal and unmanned tests were successful. He had become rich, and his life was budding with a new romance. He felt foolish that he had ever considered the idea of going back in time.
To complete the manned testing and wrap up the project, RMI agrees to let Jeremiah travel one week into the future. As he steps though the time gate the system fails. Before RMI can fix it, the government shuts the project down citing national security issues. Jeremiah is stranded in the year AD 33 in ancient Rome with no hope of ever returning. He needs money to live so he manages to go to work for the Roman Intelligence Service.
After two years, his boss tasks him to go to Judea to assist Pontius Pilate to investigate a prophet named Jesus and infiltrate a radical group, The Brotherhood, a group trying to recruit Jesus to head a rebellion against Rome. Jeremiah now has the opportunity to find out the truth about Jesus. Was he really the Messiah or just a false prophet and the entire New Testament a lie?

What a great premise; travelling back to a time when Christ walked the Holy Land during His last 40 days on Earth before His crucifixion! This book had a profound effect on me as I progressed through the story. It left me feeling warmly satisfied in my faith, and the surprise ending literally had me utter out loud, "Wow!" At 1 AM in the morning as I finished it. Congrats on a very good story, CL Smothers - I am so glad our Robson Ranch Book Club recommended this novel in the last newspaper review.

Good

Good story but poor spelling and grammar. Amateurish in style and narrative. Can say anything more positive on this. Sorry
