Passion Tide

Rate this book
Some people meet life head on, with a clear view of what is expected of them ̶ and what is in store for them. Others stumble forward. Father Michael is living two lives: one as a supposedly devout Catholic priest, the other breaking his vow to the church.

Father Michael faces a crisis of fidelity, a choice between his conflicting passions. Set in 2005, PassionTide follows Father Michael as he searches for the strength to solve his dilemma.

Though a work of fiction, PassionTide touches on everyday interactions, including acts of kindness and betrayal. Surrounding Father Michael, the church is in ongoing crisis-in ongoing need of reform, populated by the strong and the weak, the devout and the unfaithful.

PassionTide offers food for thought, from both sides of the altar, while showing Father Michael's struggle with who he is called to be, and how facing one's passions is at the heart of that endeavor.

I enjoyed this story, which gives us a glimpse of Father Michael life as he navigates the challenges of his vocation as well as his own desires. I liked the realistic look at a character, who as a priest, people assume is good and does things right but who in reality is struggling with his own issues as well as the issues revolving around the church. Not being Catholic myself, I didn't quite understand all of the terminology but still enjoyed the story. While I get that describing what some readers would already know would bog the story down, I do wish there had been a glossary included in the book for those who might need to look up a term or ritual related to the Catholic Church. I know while I might look in a glossary for something I don't understand I am usually not going to both going to an outside source to look something up. There is a Christian value and message to the book but because it comes through in the main characters struggles it doesn't feel preachy. The ending came as a bit of a surprise to me, but did feel like an ending and after I considered it, I decided I liked how it ends.

If you like thought provoking fiction about a characters journey to navigate real life struggles with a bit of romance thrown in, then I would recommend this story.
