Life brings setbacks and tragedies to us all, but the suffering does not define us. Our choices do. We are who we choose to become in the aftermath.
Traumatized and orphaned by the Nagasaki blast, Omoto Diaki was left only with his childhood friend, Ryuuji, the boy he loved. When Ryuuji brought him to a new world filled with fresh challenges, Ryuuji met them all with love even when Omoto struggled. But violence shattered this bond as well, leaving Omoto truly alone.
Who will Omoto choose to be? What path will he take?
His story, Legacy, is one of several tales in this volume that introduce new and unforgettable characters, while others offer new glimpses into the personal histories of characters familiar to readers of Stephanie Barr's novels. All focus on those who refused to bow their heads to fate and instead forged their own futures.
Stephanie Barr is a part time novelist, full time rocket scientist and mother of three children and slave to three cats. She has three blogs, which are sporadically updated. Anything else even vaguely interesting about her can be found in her writing since she puts a little bit of herself in everything she writes . . . just not the same piece.
I was lucky enough to read an advanced copy of Legacy. Small warning - hold on to your heart and seat when reading this one.
Legacy is a collection of short stories by Stephanie Barr. Some take place in worlds she has already written about while others are either (currently) stand-alone stories or tastes of works to come (I have suggested that at least 2 of the stand-alones need their own full length novel).
Without providing any spoilers these books deal with love and relationships in ways that are captivating and believable (even when crossing species).
I happily recommend this as a fun and great end of summer read, or for a winter night with a cup of coco (but in that case read it in the kitchen - coco can stain walls or carpeting ;) ).
The book intrigued me when the author was nominated for one of my Best Indie Titles of 2017 awards on my author blog, and the author was nice enough to share the story with me for a review. Legacy is a collection of short stories written by Barr, and I think the stories relate to each other in more than just the author writing them. It's a great collection of stories, and Barr certainly can write a short story, as short stories are not so easy to write. A few of the stories, I could see doing some expansion on, and creating a full length novel or series on. Barr writes well, and tells a good story.
I've been on the lookout for New-to-Me authors and a friend loaned me this collection of short stories, and I'm glad she did. It's been a long time since I've read fantasy but it was those stories in Legacy that I enjoyed the most. My favorites of the set: All of the Jenri stories especially Not Quite a Knight, and The Tarot Queen. I'm looking forward to reading more of Stephanie Barr's work.
This is my first read by this author so all the characters were new to me. It's a great collection of short stories. They all give you a good taste of the author's writting style.
