A nice middle grade story. A story about different firsts in a life of a middle grade schooler - first friendship, first basketball, first football etc... Also a story about bullies and how to stand to them.

I enjoy reading this one. It's not exactly what I thought this one would become but sometimes when life is not bearable still its nice to know that there are friends who is willing to support you all the way. 😊

My daughter will post her review below, but let me share just how much she enjoyed it. The whole time she was reading the book (and she read it in one day), she was telling me about what was happening, laughing at the funny parts, and gasping when something bad happened. She really got into it. Here's her review…

I loved this book. I would give it a million stars if I could. Charlie's catch phrases (like "hot spaghetti" or "oh pug") were awesome! They were hilarious. I thought the story was very exciting. Sometimes I had to close the book and take a breath. The writing was good. I could see the characters in my head, and I never got confused about what was happening. I'm going to share this book with my friends. Thanks so much for sending me this book. I can't wait to read more from Kristen! I hope there will be more Alien Kid books.

This was such a sweet book about a Jovian alien from one of Jupitar’s moons. As a sixth grader just trying to fit in, he finds it harder than he expected, but with the help of a few new friends, he’ll see that earth isn’t all that bad. Cute for children aged 10-12.

I thought this book was amazing. The reason I deducted a star from it was because there were a couple of parts that I didn't like in the book.

This is a laugh out loud story for children (and those adults who never grew up).

Alien Kid Review

This book kept me interested all the way through. Each chapter have me more information about Charlie and Maya. In real life parents seem to read our minds as if they were aliens leaving us scratching our head's in wonder. This book also showed us that bullies do not always win. Especially if we have a friend by our side with support.

Charlie Baker is the new sixth grader in Silver Lake Middle School. Middle school is a difficult period in any child's life, but for Charlie, things are especially tough. Charlie and his family tell everyone that they have just moved to upstate New York from Cleveland, but they are aliens from Jupiter's moon, Europa. A revolution led to a militaristic faction gaining control. Charlie's family had to flee in order to survive. The family struggles to blend in on Earth, but their ability to read minds is both a blessing and a curse.

Charlie is bullied by Caden and Jordan. He falls in love with a fellow student named Maya, to whom he reveals his secret. But Maya wants Charlie to use his gift to help others. Charlie is having enough problems trying to understand the culture and the language. He says things like “hot spaghetti” and “oh pug” leaving his fellow sixth-graders mystified. The book focuses on middle-grade issues like bullying, peer-school relationships, and first love. This tale will appeal to students struggling to fit into a new school or neighborhood. The characters are believable and realistic.

Recommended especially for readers in fourth through seventh grades, but the story is well-written and appealing for any age.

Charlie is the new kid at school. He looks like any other kid, but far from it and he has to try and fit in when he goes to school. He has a secret that he has to hide from everyone. This is a book that is going to keep a child's interest all the way through. This book also does a great job addressing that bullies do not always win. This was such a cute book to read. It was a fun twist with him being the new kid in middle school. I highly recommend this book. It addresses a child being new in a school, fitting in, making friends, and standing up to a bully.

Alien kids

I thought this was just so cute. It was a fun new twist to being the new kid in middle school. I would have loved more description or memories of Eruopa to be drawn out and understood better but it was still plenty interesting. Charlie baker was a lovable character and
Hot Spaghetti! I will always root for this alien, err boy!

Fun read!

My almost 9 year old grandson enjoyed this story very much! He found the storyline relatable and easy to understand.
My only negative is at the beginning of the third chapter, the bully Caden is written as Caleb. It took us a moment to figure out it was a typo and not the introduction of a new character.
Overall a delightful story, with lots of doing the right thing reinforcements. Looking forward to reading the other two books in the series with my grandson.

👍👍

The complexity yet innocence found within a children's book will always amaze me. This read was quick and easy, but utterly powerful at the same time. I love reading to my children, especially when it's something meaningful and worthwhile.

It's a simple feel-good story to bring a smile on a child's face. In fact, grown-ups would also find it refreshing and entertaining. In the modern world filled with stress of all kinds, we need more of such books written by the authors. Great job there, Kristen!

Middle school is hard enough. What if you really were an alien? A fun read, and I'll look out for more in the series.

Awesome book!

I liked how Charlie always got sayings wrong like, “it scared the living night light out of me!”. I also liked how Caden lost to a girl and was shocked.
