Fantastic brief overview of the origin and concepts of Buddhism. This isn't the book you are looking for if your desire is to gain an in-depth understanding, but it has more information than a Wikipedia search.

toš take fajne intro do budysmu level 1; moc hezky například vysvětluje jeho historické rozvětvení – onu schopnost vlévat se do rozličných kultur a nenásilně modulovat myšlenkový tok místního obyvatelstva. A tak nám v rámci jedné překlenující filosofie vzniká introvertní zazen, erotická tantra i megalomanská, 153-metrů vysoká zlatá socha.

Knížka se ale do velké míry soustředí na buddhistickou vizáž a opomíjí jeho nitro. Ústředním filosofickým konceptům je zde věnováno sotva pár stránek a tuze zde chybí citace tradičních buddhistických súter, manter či kóanů.

Kéž vnímající bytosti štěstí a jeho příčin dojdou.
Kéž utrpení všeho a jeho příčin jsou ušetřeny.

Tak dlouho, dokud trvá vesmír
a dokud jsou tu živé bytosti,
nechť setrvám i já,
abych zaháněl bědné strasti světa.

Very good introduction to Buddhism. Covers all the essential aspects and core teachings. It also makes a very easy read for lay Buddhists and those of other faiths as well.
