Happy with an eternity of seducing women for both pleasure and blood, vampire Jared Sinclair is surprised when his longtime friend Byron encourages him to sample the pleasures that might be found in a man. It's during a sensual encounter that Jared discovers the real reason Byron wants him to expand his palate … because he wants Jared to taste him. *Wet Dream*
Jaxx Steele was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, but is hiding in Indiana to stay out of trouble. Reading and writing were his first loves and continue to be first in his heart. He spends his time working a nine-to-five and traveling when he can. With room in his heart for Hou and their cat Judo, Jaxx has a full and happy life.
This was not a book that I enjoyed. I listened to it on audiobook and it was a little over an hour long. In that hour I think there were 5 or 6 different sex scenes, including m/m, m/f, m/f/m and m/m/m. Furthermore, it seemed like the MC was essentially raping women every night by using his vampire mind powers to make them have sex with him, despite their protestations. Furthermore, he seemed a very unlikely character as he is a centuries old vampire who has sex every night when he feeds but he has never even contemplated (or received) a blow job, considered doggy style sex or masturbated. This was quintessential PWP with just about every gender combination you can think of (except f/f). I did not find the sex sexy or hot and there was almost no plot. I wanted to like this book but I did not.
Patience is surely Byron's greatest virtue. He's survived for centuries as Jared's closest friend when Byron has desired so much more. By the Moonlight illustrates what lengths one will endure for love. In this book, Byron leads Jared through a slow journey of seduction into unknown worlds.
This is my first time reading Jaxx Steele. Although I normally like my reading a bit more challenging, I have to compliment Steele on his ability to blend strong erotic content into a likable story line. Although I found the writing style was a bit curt, I loved the characters. I would have enjoyed the reading more if some of the actions were more descriptive. Yet, I must admit...the erotica was so scorching, the discrepancies were worth overlooking.
If you like your reading hot and steamy, check out By the Moonlight.
- Poorly edited. - 90% of this story was Jared raping women by using his vampire charm to overcome their fear & protestations and make them feel aroused. - I have a hard time believing that a centuries-old vampire who frequents strips clubs to find his victims for feeding & fucking has never encountered blow jobs or doggie style. - there seemed a great effort put into making sex w/ women not seem nearly as awesome or erotic or fulfilling as sex w/ men. I take offense to that.
Overall, perfectly terrible & I want the 45 min I wasted reading this returned to me.
There is a a ton of spice and various different types of gendered pairing. It was a very fast paced read, but I probably wouldn't have read it had it been longer.
A hunter of pheromone laden blood and a lover of women (not men), Jared cannot understand why he is seeing Byron in a, well… intimate position...

Okay, never read Jaxx before and got this audio download for less than $8. It was okay. I didn't hate it. I think that maybe I wasn't in the mood for something like this. Normally, there is kidnappers/murderer/bad-guy element to what I read and this is solely I'm straight but I'll let my friend talk me into experiementing. Their vampires and not even a bit nasty/indiffernt to their human meals. It sounds to me like I needed something a little more gritty.
