Family Romance Comedy Age Difference Standalone A funny, spicy romance that follows a daughter on a quest, then continues with a father who’s very interested in finding out what his girl’s been up to with a friend of his. Neither could know that they’d both find their futures so far from home. One novel, two love stories. Isla Roe begrudgingly takes her father’s advice to go see his old college friend when her debut novel crashes and burns. Big mistake. Jack Grady—this friend of her dad’s who is an editor—is lethally handsome, and he absolutely hates Isla’s book. In short, Isla is…screwed. Aiden Roe wants to see it with his own eyes. He wants to confront them and make a scene—that’s how pissed he is. So he heads up to Washington when his sweet, innocent daughter has been gone for too long, and he checks into a bed and breakfast and…doesn’t he know the stunning woman behind the desk? This story takes place in Cara Dee’s Camassia Cove Universe, a fictional town where all books stand on their own, unless otherwise stated, and the reader can jump in wherever they want.
I'm often stoically silent or, if the topic interests me, a chronic rambler. In other words, I can discuss writing forever and ever. Fiction, in particular. The love story—while a huge draw and constantly present—is secondary for me, because there's so much more to writing romance fiction than just making two (or more) people fall in love and have hot sex. There's a world to build, characters to develop, interests to create, and a topic or two to research thoroughly. Every book is a challenge for me, an opportunity to learn something new, and a puzzle to piece together. I want my characters to come to life, and the only way I know to do that is to give them substance—passions, history, goals, quirks, and strong opinions—and to let them evolve. Additionally, I want my men and women to be relatable. That means allowing room for everyday problems and, for lack of a better word, flaws. My characters will never be perfect.
Wait…this was supposed to be about me, not my writing.
I'm a writey person who loves to write. Always wanderlusting, twitterpating, kinking, and geeking. There's time for hockey and cupcakes, too. But mostly, I just love to write.
Inappropriately Yours comprised of two sweet and dirty interconnecting novellas. I now realise that this combination is my kryptonite. I adore nothing more then stories featuring characters who are forthcoming in what they desire with a side serving of smouldering sex. And Cara Dee seems to nail it every time.
************ I wanted to live life to the fullest, and sometimes that meant jumping in the water before figuring out how deep it was.
In the first novella, Isla Roe is daughter of famous writer Aiden Roe. With her first attempt at publishing a novel is met with harsh criticism, she is left floundering and humiliated. To salvage what’s left of her writing career, she agrees to spend the weekend with her father’s friend Jack.
Jack Grady is a freelance editor and well renowned at demanding excellence. But he knows that he must tread cautiously with his best friend’s daughter even though her book is nothing short of rubbish. Expecting a confrontational weekend, he is greeted by a young woman, genuine in her shortcomings yet refreshing in what she’s passionate about. This ends up being a heady combination. An opportunity to take what they want because they can. Consequences to be considered later…
I’d never understood why I came to life when I danced on the line between pain and pleasure. It was just how I loved it, and Jack was making my fantasies come true.
************ In the second novella, Aiden Roe has headed to Camassia Cove to retrieve his daughter Isla who hasn’t been home in months. She may be claiming to be working on a new book, but Aiden is convinced that there is more to this story. On a mission to gain the truth, a layover at the Cedar Inn, finds him running into a woman from his past, Chloe Nolan.
Chloe is a single mother on the cusp of turning 40. She may have spent the last couple of decades raising children, but she is not immune to the hot man, checking into her inn. And when he shows some interest and insists on dinner out, why would she say no?
I shaved my legs earlier - and…other places. I’m not sure you realise how rare that is, and we’ve had such an amazing time tonight.
Is there any chance any chance you can leave the gentleman behind and take me upstairs and, and – oh God.
This author did a fantastic job of combining two stories where Aiden and Isla find new beginnings. Definitely sweet and sexy!
Two short -- and very "insta" -- stories. I enjoyed Aiden and Chloe's story more than I did Jack and Isla's. Isla had a tendency to "giggle" a lot. That annoyed me more than a little. These stories were ok, but I do prefer Cara Dee's full length novels.
First we get Jack and Isla. Isla’s Dad is best friends with Jack. This complicated things when Isla and Jack have an attraction to one another. Those scenes were HOT!
Aiden knows something is going on with Isla when she keeps prolonging her stay in Camassia Cove. He goes up there to investigate. He stays at the inn that Chloe owns. Having read the Auction series before this, it was nice to get to know Chloe more and see how Gray was pre-kidnapping.
This was a very fast read and I loved both couples. Off to read the next one!
3.5 stars. It's best to go into this knowing it's 2 short stories. While it's super hot, the insta love is happening...deep connections after only 24 hours that I don't typicaly fall for. It's a quick, easy read and I did enjoy it.
I love all the characters in this fictional town and I want all of them have their own story one way or the other. Therefore it's so gratifying to see Isla & Jack and Aiden & Chloe getting their happy endings too, albeit the stories are too short.
My draw to this book was definitely Jack and Isla’s story, I’m a sucker for an older guy, younger woman story. It definitely hit the spot. The story from their side ended just about 50% into the book then we jumped into Isla’s dad’s side and got to hang out with him (Aiden) and Chloe. Their story was enjoyable as well and had the added bonus of Aiden’s Gypsy Girl mystery.
This was essentially two quickies mushed into one book. They were both enjoyable and hot, there were a few side characters that caught my attention *cough* Gray *cough* and I will definitely be keeping an eye out for more Gray! I’ll probably visit Camassia Cove again 😉
The perfect balance of steamy and tender. Isla and Jack's story in the first part of the book lit up the pages, just filthy! While Chloe and Aiden's story in the second part was just lovely and full of heat. The story closes with a perfect conclusion to the mix of the family they've become and promises of more appearances from side characters in other books in CCU.
What a hot steamy sweet read this is. Cara Dee actually gives us two stories in one. Both are awesome. Isla is a writer. She wants to follow in her fathers footsteps. However her first book has failed and her Father suggests she visits his college friend for some advice. Well Jack and Isla have immediate chemistry and even though it's inappropriate they give in to temptation. Jack will make you swoon.
Well then Aiden, Isla's Father, discovers that something is just not right and heads to Jack's house to get to the bottom of things. On his way he discovers his long lost Gypsy Girl. Oh Aiden! He is amazing as well, and he and Chloe have such a sweet reconnection. Loved every word!!
Unfortunately this was a bit too short and had the dreaded insta love but I guess that’s because two stories were stuffed into one book. I liked both couples but I definitely preferred the second half which was Aiden and Chloe’s story. It was a quick, easy read and I did enjoy it I just would have preferred a longer more slower paced read.
While not disappointed in this book, I wasn’t completely happy with it. It was way to short for a book about two separate couples. It felt incomplete. The sex scenes were really hot though. 😉
”Love knows no bounds, Aiden. We're the ones who put restrictions and limits to the possibilities.”

*sigh*
I was really looking forward to this book. I have been eager to read these characters’ stories ever since I saw them appear in the “Auctioned” series — but this book did end up falling a bit short for me (unfortunately). :(
I wish that ”Inappropriately Yours” had been longer. It didn’t feel as though we were able to spend enough time with these characters / either relationship & the relationships themselves seemed too insta-love-esque for my tastes.
(others might not mind that / feel differently, though!)
„Inappropriately Yours“ is book 4 in Cara Dee´s „Camassia Cove“ universe.
This is the story of Aiden Roe and his daughter Isla.
What happens when your daughter visits your best friend of over twenty years in a lovely little town in northern Washington to get her first book edited by him, and instead of only working on her writing, they fall in love at first sight. What was meant to be a visit just for a weekend, gets longer and longer and Isla stays with Jack for almost two months.
Now, it is Aiden´s turn. Suspecting what is going on between his daughter and his friend, he travels from LA to Camassia Cove, determined to confront both Isla and Jack. What he doesn´t expect at all, is to find someone from his childhood. The girl, which inspired him to write his first bestselling book.
And to find love again.
„The awkward boy in the book is me. Gypsy Girl was a fearless little girl who lived across from me in Shreveport, Louisiana. When I didn´t have the courage to introduce myself, I started imagining what it would be like to have her as a friend. Thirty-two years later, I was given a second chance. I had the courage to say hello this time.“
I do admit, Isla´s and Jack´s story is not a favorite of mine. I just could not get their chemistry or even growing feelings. Isla jumps Jack at the first opportunity, well knowing the struggle and remorse she´s causing for Jack.
BUT: When Aiden meets Chloe. Yesss. There is the chemistry. Sparks fly. Hearts beats faster. Both cannot resist long their growing attraction. What a beautiful, sweet lovestory. A little bit too fast (and the story a little bit too short) but so so adorable ❤
„Inappropriately Yours“ is book 4 in Cara Dee´s „Camassia Cove“ universe. To understand the following books, which are all connected somehow and a lot of characters cross over several books, it is recommended to read the previous books according to the timeline you can find on Cara Dee´s homepage.
This was a pretty good two short stories connected book. It was amusing with some very hot scenes.
There were some parts that I didn't enjoy. I'm not an instalove type of girl to be fair. Those who are will love the combination between that and hot scenes. The instalove knocked it off half a star for me. However, I will say that because they are short stories I can understand going that route which is why only half a star versus a star deduction.
The storylines I felt were solid outside of instalove. I enjoyed the small amount of tension between the main characters in the first story (Jack and Isla). The story between Aiden and Chloe was cute but not overwhelming sweet--more endearing than anything, which I appreciated. With the fact they were short stories I think Cara Dee did a good job of adding an actual storyline versus just instalove and hot scenes. That is the main reason I'm giving 4 stars.
Character development was pretty good with the short space the author utilized but not to the level I expect for most short stories. That resulted in final half star deduction. I did love the world building more than character development. It really sold the town more and added some excellent brush strokes the picture.
4 stars. I'd recommend it mainly to those who are reading the Camassia Cove series. While everything is a standalone in the series seeing other characters pop up is always great!
This was wonderful. I should’ve known. Cara Dee is a great author and she has a way writing characters that can jump of the page. I love how real her books feel. This was special. I needed/wanted more, that’s why it’s 4.3 stars. I love when we get to see the couple live together over an extended period of time. And in a lot of her book, Dee gives us the start and a little bit of the middle, and then a massive epilogue.
I left a lot of notes for myself on this book. The premise of the older editor and you get author, is perfect for a young writer like me. I loved the age gap here and Jack was just so steady and grounded. I loved everything about him. Isla is perfect for him.
Am not saying this right, my words fail me. But yea, I loved this so much. Might reread again.
Another great read by Cara Dee. This book tells the story in 2 parts which is really good as you get a POV of all 4 main characters so you get a real view into the story from all angles. The main character Isla writes a book that has bad reviews .. her dad who is a famous author suggests she goes to visit one of his editor friends for some help... insert hot editor Jack! After some back and forth between whats right and wrong re the age gaps.. the friendships of the older men etc this brings Adam into town to find out whats happening with his daughter an old friend.. he checks into a local inn and that an old neighbour happens to own! Hence the start of new friendships or could it be more?? Id like to read more books from other characters in this story.
"Don't confuse average for mediocre. Average doesn't have to be boring. If anything, I find it real and inspiring. In the grand scheme of things, we're all average, and we don't need Hollywood or scandals to make life exciting."
Isla and Jack, Chloe and Aiden. These characters are "average". And relatable. And lovable. And wonderful! The writing the is excellent, the plot engaging, and the characters suck you in with their vulnerabilities, strengths, and pretty amazing connection of two people falling in love. The sex scenes are passionate, well written, and draw the characters closer, strengthening their story.
So I liked this book, but I didn't know it included two novellas in one, so that was not expected.
At first, I wasn't so sure about it since I'd already imagined Aiden as an old dad, but then I got used to it and began liking it. I would have wanted more relationship development and less instalove. However, the book was still enjoyable and written well, so I didn't mind too much.
The thing about novellas, though, is that they are always too short, and when it's a good one, I always get invested. Like in this one, I would have liked more page time with Chloe's sons and having Aiden bond with them.
I preferred Aiden and Chloe's relationship over Isla and Jack, but that was probably just because their story came last, so I remembered them best.
This book has two stories in one: Isla and Jack + Chloe and Aiden. I've put off reading it when making my way thru Cara's backlist because 1) I don't read much MF lately and 2) I'd rather have one longer story than two novellas mashed together. I liked this book well enough, but my reasons for holding off were pretty valid.
We get some forbidden age gap with Isla and Jack. And Chloe and Aiden are kind of a second chance at love, two people who have orbited each other in the past but didn't actually know each other. Both stories were fine, but since they were so short, I had a hard time falling for the characters like I usually do with a Cara story.
My arm doesn’t need to be twisted anymore to read Cara Dee MF stories. I adored this duet story!
And any opportunity to learn more about my all time favourite character, Gray, I’m 100% in!!!
Isla and Jack were cute, some really good smexy scenes and a good story explaining their getting together.. but Aiden and Chloe’s story was the winner for me, I loved them, I loved their unexpected history, they both seemed to be good people, honestly.. I wish I lived in Camassia Cove!
Very cute and heartwarming, with a few hot smut scenes thrown in. I would have liked to see more of Jack's and Isla's relationship development tho. Having two romances in one book felt like there wasn't enough time for each one. Absolutely ADORED the little nods to the other Camassia cove residents (like Lincoln and Ade and Thea's parents) Great read all in all. The only reasons for 4 stars instead of 5 are the lack of time for each relationship and probably that my standards are pretty high when it comes to Cara Dee. Some of her other books are simply better.
3.5 'The thing for me with this book, yes it was, as always, well written cos Cara Dee is an awesome writer but I had no previous connection with the chatacters like I have had in other books. I wanted to read about Kid and so I found myself skimming to get to the inevitable confrontation that this storyline provides. Am definitely looking forward to Grays book. And honestly I think it was just simply a matter of two MF books in a row for me is too much' stars.
We have a book which covers two love stories. The first is the romance of Isla and Jack. Jack was Isla's father's best friend and she has come to Camassia for his help as a respected editor when her novel tanks. The second is the story of Chloe and Aiden, Isla's father. He has come to Camassia Cove to confirm his suspicions about Jack and Isla. What Aiden doesn't expect is to find love from his past!
Another two-parter but this time each part follows a different couple. Part one features Isla and Jack and is a ‘father’s best friend’, age gap. Part two is about Chloe and Aiden (who is Isla’s father and Jack’s friend). I much preferred the second part of the book but ‘father’s best friend’ has never been one of my favourite tropes anyway. I also recognised Aiden from the Auctioned series so I liked seeing how he and Chloe met.
So I don't usually read this authors MF works. I've been missing out. I recently read another story with references to this one and it made me seek it out to read. What a wonderful funny read. The writing is great, the characters pull you in. This is why this author is always one click. I'm enjoying this series.
This is like a duet in one book. Follow 2 people from the same family fining their other half. Beautifully written with characters who you can't help but fall in love with. I love that you get snippets from others in the series even with this being a standalone book. Its romantic and spicy and sweet and steamy. I loved it and couldn't put it down.
