'unfolding' is the debut collection of poetry, prose, notes, and stories by Jenai Charles. It explores the difficulties of practicing self-love through the language of flowers. It's about breaking and coming together again and unfolding into your best self. Throughout this book, you take a journey from being a seed to becoming a flower.
There is always something special about poetry books centered around family to me - a richer kind of love that I enjoy reading about because it is both personal and offers unique, interesting descriptions of those people. Even though the book is called 'unfolding' it takes a very positive attitude to self love and healing. For me, the best poems in this collection were family centered.
The cohesion of this book is brilliant and the words are far from simple. Simultaneously feeling heartbreak for the person who went through the disappointment to feel things this deeply and being so thankful that you're not alone in your own has been so incredibly motivating. It's worth every second of time you can give it.
