Truth Will Prevail: The Rise of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the British Isles 1837-1987

Rate this book
This year (1987) marks the 150th anniversary of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the British Isles. In 1837, seven missionaries from America brought the news to Britain that the true Church of Jesus Christ had been restored to the earth. This restoration included the priesthood, the ordinances, and the pure doctrines of Christ. Two of the missionaries were apostles of the Lord. Three years later, in 1840, eight apostles were sent, including Brigham Young, John Taylor and Wilford Woodruff, who later became presidents of the Church.

The success of the apostolic mission was immediate. Tens of thousands received the gospel and enthusiastically emigrated to 'Zion', the gathering place in America, where they made significant contributions to the Church. At the same time, however, the constant emigration of converts to America delayed the building of a mature and established Church in Britain.

Since the Second World War the 'gathering to Zion' has meant building Zion here in Britain, where today there are 140,000 saints, organized into forty stakes and 243 wards and branches, who possess a spiritual maturity that is truly bringing Zion to the British Isles.

Besides the fact that I took over a year to read this book (apparently a 'History of' anything is hard for me to read) I really enjoyed it. Mostly because so much of the content has relation to my time there. I'm grateful for my ancestors who came from Britain, grateful to have served as a missionary there, and I am grateful for all of the amazing people who made such an influence on me while I was there and since.

Have enjoyed the first 200 hundred some odd pages. Now that his has gotten into the Welsh it has become a slow read for me. However the first half was so interesting.
