Twilight Phantasies is the first tale of the history-making "Wings in the Night" saga. Tamara Dey's entire life has been orchestrated by a DPI scientist intent on using her as bait for the undead he knows are compelled to protect her. Everything she's ever believed has been a lie, and the man she's been told is a monster, Eric Marquand, is the only one telling her the truth.

Twilight Memories is the story of the finest character Maggie Shayne has ever created, Rhiannon, once known as Rianikki, daughter of Pharaoh, Princess of Egypt, desired by men and envied by women, she fears nothing. And yet deep within this fiery woman lies an old hurt, a vulnerability and a yearning just to be loved. Roland de Courtemarch is the object of her desire, and really, he should have just surrendered from the start as he never stood a chance.

I live in the teeny, tiny town of Taylor, NY, (Alliteration Alert!) though my mailing address is Cincinnatus, my telephone exchange is Truxton and I pay taxes and vote in Cuyler. All of these are at least in the same rural county in the southern hills of New York State; Cortland County. There are more cattle than people here. The nearest “big” cities are Syracuse and Binghamton and they are an hour away, in different directions, and not really all that big by most standards, though they both seem humongous to me. I look out my window to see rolling, green, thickly forested hills, wildflower laden meadows and wide open blue, blue skies. My road is barely paved. The nearest neighboring place is a 700 acre dairy farm.

My house is a big, century old farmhouse. I moved in here after my divorce in 2006. Just a little over a year later, the house, which I had named, SERENITY, burned. It was 99% gutted, and I lost my two dogs, Sally, an 11-year-old great Dane, and Wrinkles, my 14-year-old, blind bulldog. This was the culmination of my Dark Night of the soul, which had seemed to hit me all at once in 2006-2007. My mother died that year, after a 14 month battle with pancreatic cancer. She was only 60. The youngest of my five daughters had left home that same year, and while that’s not a tragedy at all, it felt like one to me. Then came the divorce. And finally there was the fire--it seemed my darkest night wasn’t quite finished with me after all. I had lost almost everything before that point, and as I poked through the wet ashes and soot the next day, I realized that I had now been stripped all the way to the bone.

No better time to start over. (And no, I didn’t come to that realization that day--there were a few days of wallowing in pity first, particularly the day after the fire, when I hit a deer and smashed up my car, which I was practically living in!)

That’s when I started to laugh. Just sat on the side of the road as the deer bounded, uninjured and carefree, out of sight, and laughed. It was just too ridiculous at that point, to do anything else!

And from there, I picked myself up, and brushed myself off, and said, okay, there’s only one way to go from here. Forward. And that’s what I did. There I was at the age of harrurmphemmph, living in my one, mostly undamaged remaining room, with a dorm-sized mini-fridge, a futon, a TV, my cat (nine lives!) and a laptop. And not much else. (Though thank goodness the room that survived the fire, was a room that had its own attached bathroom!)

Since then I have rebuilt my beloved home, which really has become my haven, my “Serenity.” I share it now with my fiancé, Lance, and we have accumulated quite the little family together. “Little” being a relative term. We have a pair of English Mastiffs, Dozer and Daisy, who weigh 203 pounds and 208 pounds respectively, and a little pudgy English Bulldog named Niblet, who is bigger than both of them, inside her mind. We also have the aforementioned cat, Glorificus (“Glory” for short,) who adores her canine pups and keeps them firmly in line. And we've acquired a pair of stray cats as well, a mother and son, Luna (Lulu for short) and Butters aka Buddy. Lulu showed up pregnant during a lunar eclipse, had a litter, and vanished again. We found homes for all the kittens except one. Butters. We got him fixed and kept him. A few months later, Lulu returned, again expecting. This litter was born on the "Monster Moon." Again, all the kittens were spayed and neutered and placed in homes, and this time we got Lulu to the vet in time to spay her before the cycle could repeat.

Glory is not amused.

She has a story of her own, my old Glory cat, having been with me before the Dark Times descended, she went through it all with me, moved with me, survived the fire, and remains with me still. She's tolerating the newcomers. Barely.

My partner is an artist, a mechanic, a welder and an inventor, and the rumors are true, he is much younger than I

Great start to a promising series, this book has two stories, first on is about Eric Marquand and a woman that he saved wen she was a child of 6 years of age. Now she is a grown woman but having issues with her sleep, he health and her over protective guardian. Eric is connected to Tamera mentally and feels her anguish in her dreams but he fights to ease her discomfort. One night he couldnt fight and had to see her but she saw him that night and hasnt gotten him out of her mind. No matter what her guardian and his government agent partner tells her she will follow her own heart. Eric with the help from Roland (the man that saved his life many times but also is his vampire sire & close friend) help Tamera overcome her stress and help her become who she is meant to be, and for her to help with a preteen boy that she cares about like a brother and him being thrown in to a mess with the DPI and their quest to take out vampires.
The second story is about Roland (Eric's friend) and is trying to keep Jamey (the boy Tamera is close to) from harm of the DPI but form a Curtis Rogers that is looking for revenge on Tamera, Eric and also Roland but he never included dealing with a woman that his body and heart wanted since he was mortal, the one that changed his life. Rhiannon is hoping to help Roland keep the boy safe from harm no matter what Roland said or does, she is there no matter what to find away to eliminate the threat of DPI and of Curtis Rogers that followed Roland form the States to his castle in Paris. She never thought her heart would come in question towards the recluse of a man Roland but through out their story she and Roland will fight but being the Egyptian Princess that she is she will not detour from her quest to make Roland hers and only hers no matter how much Roland fights to push her away, until he utters the same words her father uttered to her when she was a very young child, 'She is his curse' in her fathers case she was the firstborn and a girl and he didnt lover her, in Roland's case he is to believe he has bloodthirty demon in his soul and no one is safe from him and his rage.

Okay I liked the characters and, yes, I will continue following this series, but, lord, must it be so very melodramatic!?? The number of times I've rolled my eyes as I read...

Twilight Phantasies introduces us to four of the main characters: Eric, Tamara, Roland, and Jamey as it unfolds the background of Shayne's vampiric culture and their battle with DPI and its obsessed scientists. Also revealed is the truth of Tamara's upbringing and the critical bond between her and Jamey and with Eric.

Shayne's vampires are of the kind variety with a secondary task as guardians which they are compelled to perform.

Twilight Memories brings a character, Rhiannon, mentioned in Phantasies to the fore with tales of her history as an Egyptian princess. Wow, just the thought of seeing all that history unfold let alone living through it... This particular story takes place at Roland's family castle in France and revolves around Roland and Rhiannon who each refuse to acknowledge the love they have for each other as they desperately attempt to save Jamey from the clutches of DPI and Curtis Rogers. With a little help from their friends, Eric and Tamara.

I'm looking forward to a continued acquaintance with Pandora as well...

When Tamara was six, her life was saved by a vampire named Eric Marquand. Although she never knew it, this created an enduring psychic connection between her and the 200-year old vampire. Now it's 20 years later, and Tamara works for the government's Deparatment of Paranormal Investigations. In her dreams, though, she calls out to Marquand as he is the only one who can make her feel whole again. Twilight Begins collects the first two books in Maggie Shayne's Wings of the Night series. These romances all take place in a world where vampires are hunted down by the government, but where they also experience great passions and true love.

If you are a sexy vampire book lover and you haven't tried the Maggie Shayne books, give her a whirl. I enjoy her. She borders romance novels more not so much in content (although there is a lot of romance), but in the feel-I guess not as much substance. I guess I just feel there is a lot more meat to the Kim Harrison books, but these are fun.

A twilight series to certainly pale in comparison - we'll see. . .

This book is actually two small books combined to make one. The first book wasn't as good as the second book but it had some necessary back-story. AND the first book had major *blush factor*
