Johanna Spyri was a Swiss author of children's stories, best known for Heidi. Born Johanna Louise Heusser in the rural area of Hirzel, Switzerland, as a child she spent several summers in the area around Chur in Graubünden, the setting she later would use in her novels.
So sweet! When I'm in the mood for something light and heartwarming, I can still turn to Johanna Spyri's stories for children and fully enjoy them. If you have kids in your life, do them a favor and give them anything Spyri wrote. This book is a short tale of a small girl's vacation and her adventure during the summer in pursuit of a few flowers.
"Little Miss Grasshopper" is a sweet story about a little girl who wants these red flowers, and even though she got into trouble, she was sure God was protecting her and someone would find her. I really enjoyed it! :)
Cute story, with maybe not so much of a lesson to it as some of Johanna Spyri's other works, but still full of diverse and believable characters that capture your heart and make you want to root for them.
These two short stories were a delight to read aloud as a family. It is a joy to read stories that place a high value on the joy of family life and the watchful eye of our Heavenly Father and Savior.
