This zoo is considered one of the best in the world. Its list of awards fills page and demonstrates its dedication to research, conservation, and preservation of endangered species. Having moved to Omaha from Washington D.C. in 1972, I was here for about 20 years of the zoo's progress in fulfilling the vision of Dr. Lee Simmons, who became Executive Director in 1970. It was a fun read and brought back many memories and the excitement of seeing each new exhibit for the first time.
