For The Broken is an exquisite collection of poetry divided into four chapters. Each chapter serves a different purpose. The chapters are For The Healing, For the Loving, For the Oppressed, and For the Broken. This book teaches you to love yourself and others. It's better experienced than described, so sit down with some coffee and allow yourself to feel-- and heal.
5 STARS "The best song I ever heard was the way you moaned"
Title: For The Broken Author: Shenaia Lucas Genre: Poetry
This is my first book from Shenaia Lucas and it wont be my last. This book was short simple and to the point everything I love in poetry. This book was very much for the broken heart which a lot of people have dealt with and experience Lucas writes great poetry but also gives great advice that will stay with you for along time.
“you are not your insecurities you are the strength of the mountains and the wisdom of the rivers you are everything -yourself”
I would definitely recommend this book if you love poetry and healing of your heart.
“-healing begins now take solace in those who have stood by you through it all loyalty is of infinite value and so rare these days”
This was a very cute poetry book some poems made me happy & certain poems felt healing in a way tbh <3 Chapter 3 highlighted important topics relating to marginalized groups which I really appreciated.
The poetry wasn’t really complex but I like those type of poems because it sounds like it’s written straight from someone’s thoughts & it doesn’t feel like I’m hurting my brain trying to understand it 🥲
The format of this book on kindle was rlly weird which bothered me but that was just a tech issue 3 Also, this book is on kindle unlimited if anyone wants to read it on there!!
This was a big surprise. At first, I didn't get the formatting. After a while of reading, I got into the rhythm. Very good stuff. At times, brutally honest about our society and race relations. I enjoyed the word play and will be looking for more of her poetry.
~short but deep~ fav quotes <3 "you were whole before him and you can be whole after him" -he does not complete you
“she’s lying she wants attention she’s a whore she led him on she regretted it it’s her fault” -and they wonder why we don't speak out "the best song i ever heard was the way you moaned" -music
It was a pretty good collection of poems. What bothered me was the part of very political poems that seemed randomly thrown in to be more relatable. The formatting of this book also irritated me, it was very confusing to see what poem and title went together and why there were like 5 poems per each page. If you can get past the formatting and political poems then the rest are good but very short and seemed more like stuff you read in a fortune cookie, not in a book of poetry.
The formatting made the poetry hard to read, but it reminded me of a less refined "the princess saves herself in this one" by Amanda Lovelace. With some editing, I feel the powerful parts of this book (kindle edition) would really shine. Some poems were relatable and even important to read, especially for the audience the book is targeted for.
The first 40% of this is great. Then it turns in to a twitter feed. The world is broken, we are not perfect. But sometimes I want to enjoy literature without the problems in the world being stuffed in my face.
”For the broken” är en lätt bok att läsa och jag tror tyvärr att den kanske enkelt känns lite för kliché för vissa. Personligen så uppskattade jag den väldigt mycket! Det kändes nästan lite som en vän.
“she was beautiful before he said so and she remained beautiful when he stopped saying it -you are your own standard” The first sentence that got me hooked on the book right away.
“you may feel that everything has ended the world has collapsed and there is nothing worth living for but hold on you will feel joy again -for the broken” The last sentence; also when I realized I had to put the book down. It's a very cute (and helpful) book full of poetry. It's filled with short beautiful poems, that really made me feel something. The poems are written in such a way that it is relatable, and I love that it is short but so so meaningful. I wanted to read it all at once; I couldn't put the book back. A friend recommended the book to me, and I'd say she's right, to all the broken, and all people who are struggling right now --> read this.
I enjoyed the first two chapters but then I lost interest on the third and it was downhill from there. The third chapter felt out of place and like someone was ranting to me on anything and everything. Just not my preferred type of poetry. Also, the kindle format is really terrible.
It's all about love for one another and finding ways to love yourself first. We are all broken and we are all enduring. We must help each other heal. This was the overall message I received and I believe in it.
The title says it all. I struggle with depression, anxiety, self worth, and self love. I lost myself in a relationship. The guy ended the relationship and I leaned on him for everything...even happiness. Him ending the relationship was actually the best thing that happened. This book helps with all that I struggle with.
Why is this author so mysterious? I tried googling, YouTubing, Instagramming her... No interviews, pictures, Nada! Nonetheless, I enjoyed this! Can't wait to read her other books.
"Your brokenness is beautiful not because of the way you are but because of the way you will be when you are finally free." This past few weeks I´m in a place where I can´t seem to read anything. I tried different types of romance, different genres.. I tried to re-read my favourite books of the year, but it seems like nothing really goes through me anymore. So I tried to read poetry, and since "For the Broken" was avaiable on Kindle Unlimited, I decided to give it a shot. At first I really thought this book was about people who were heartbroken, that just got out of a relationship or of a crush that went wrong, and this poem would help them heal and realize that we can stay broken for quite some time, but surely this time is not going to be forever. But, in reality, something that I didn´t realized is that people who are broken are not broken just because of a relationship that went wrong or rejection. People sometimes are broken because society made them feel that way. People sometimes are broken because they can´t seem to fit in any place that they go. People sometimes are broken because the equality that everyone talks about is not there at all. "Losing what matters most to you is the beginning of becoming yourself." So, even though I thought a lot of times during my reading that this book was a cheap self-helping kind of thing, it made me realize that brokeness could come in all forms and types. And, even though we think that we can´t seem to move on and this pain is never going to cease, we all have to hope that someday everything is going to be all right and there´s no one but ourselves that are responsible for the hope in our lives that someday we won´t stay broken anymore. "It´s hard to heal when your mind has moved on but your heart is stuck in the past."
For the Broken is beautiful collection of short poems for all kinds of different people in need of healing. If it's love or the world that has chewed you up and left you broken this book has something for you. In this book you'll find four sections for the healing, for the loving, for the oppressed, and for the broken.
In the first two sections I wasn't completely sure if this book was for me. It didn't feel original or like it brought anything new to the table. Sometimes poetry can sound a little too generic making it feel like your reading the inside of a card. It just didn't feel personal enough for me.
As we moved towards the next few sections I started to see some things I really loved. I think the last two sections for me were my favorite, especially for the oppressed. It put my thoughts on paper. The thoughts that sometimes feel so hard to formulate in a heated discussion. You want to say the perfect thing to make people understand and it doesn't always come. These are the words I needed and I'd like to thank Shenaia for that. The last section for the broken was like a love letter to each and every one of us. It felt very powerful and moving. Leaving us to start the healing for ourselves.
I would recommend this book to people who are just dipping their toes into poetry and are unsure if it's for them. It's not a long collection and it's simplified to the perfect ease. There definitely some highs and lows for me, but if you dig deep enough you might just come out with a gem.
For The Broken by Shenaia Lucas really spoke to me on a personal level. Each poem felt like a glimpse into the raw, vulnerable parts of life—healing, love, pain, and growth. I especially connected with the way Lucas writes about brokenness not as something shameful, but as something that can transform and strengthen us.
The collection is divided into four sections—For The Healing, For The Loving, For The Oppressed, and For The Broken—and I found each chapter uniquely powerful. Some poems made me pause and reflect, others made me feel understood in moments I didn’t even realize I needed.
The simplicity of her words is what makes them so striking; they linger long after you’ve read them. This is the kind of book I’ll return to whenever I need a reminder that it’s okay to feel, to struggle, and to grow. It’s personal, emotional, and inspiring, and I’d recommend it to anyone who’s looking for poetry that really resonates with the heart.
I love how deep, raw and authentic. The narrator was, I moaned throughout the last chapter of the book “ for the broken.” - It literally spoke of everything, I felt while enduring such unfortunate tragedies of my life ( specifically from my ex boyfriend and school etc. ) I felt so very vulnerable and useless but after reading those motivational/inspiring words. I began to feel a gain of gainful strength, powerful and spiritual growth. That everything is going to get better and I will get through this and I will be alright.. - The transition won’t happen overnight of course but definitely over due time! - I would, like to sincerely! Thank you for publishing this beautiful book! I pray that God continue to bless you and spiritually guide you! 💛😇
Honestly, the only valuable part of this collection is "chapter three: for the oppressed" because it is the only one that actually has something to say, it is politically engaged and addresses a lot of problems with the society in general and in doing that it is ruthless - as it should be. But otherwise, I did not see a lot of poetry in this collection, the topics are so overused, I feel like I've read a thousand similar "poems" already, and I simply don't get this trend of making every semi-significant sentence you think of into a poem. It just doesn't work that way!! I'm tired of this one-liner poetry, I need something with more substance.
