Can you feel it? I mean . . . really feel it? The strength of the elephant? The majesty of the lion? The cunning of the leopard? Jon and Michelle could. Luna and Ngombe could. When evil swept across the African Savanna, shattering their lives, they had to choose between love or revenge, between the real or the magical, and between killing or being killed. The story of those choices and their extraordinary adventures with a little rhinoceros called Victor, still echoes across the great plains of Africa. So, if you feel it too, then join us and stand together with the animals in their time of greatest need. Join us . . . before we die young.

This is series of five books and I've just finished the first one Before We Die Young. This is not my usual choice of reading but it piqued my curiosity. A chance meeting of four young people and a growing band of 'souls'. A story of revenge and survival, love and killing across the savanna and mountains of Africa. Totally opposite to my usual genre so I wasn't sure I was going to enjoy this book at first. Two of the young characters, brother and sister are about to embark on their training for their chosen careers in law and medicine. But their circumstances suddenly change. Leaving his friends, sister and grandparents behind, Jon rides out to avenge his father's death. I couldn't put this book down and look forward to reading the second book of the series.
This was a long series and took a while to finish. The stories are good and have great lessons that need to be heard, but was a bit stretched. There were spots with spelling and grammatical errors as well. The names of some of the characters a bit, why, predictable or based on characters in other stories. If the stories were shorter and less stretched out this would easily be closer to a 4.0 or even 4.5.
Well the book title does warn you of the ending. I luckily did get sad at the end. Though now that I am not in ya age group I just could not help but he be exasperated with teen angst and we should be bang before we likely will die sex.
