Jesus - this was... bleak! So much sadness, hardship, and pain. I mean I was gripped, utterly gripped, but what a rough ride. I hated, hated, *hated* how the h loved Guy so much, debased herself, threw herself before him time and again and even until the bitter end she pined for him. That utter bastard, and even though he died I never felt like he got his comeuppance (nor did the OW), and his crimes were BAD. The ending felt so sad, technically a HEA but shrouded in so much, well, darkness I suppose.
Not even remotely a light hearted romance read. But damn, I couldn't put it down.
