A Class Act...

that was Carly Austin. High class all the way. She'd been out of Rafe Strongheart's reach in high school, and as far as he was concerned nothing had changed. He was still the Indian boy from the wrong side of the tracks, and she was still the uptown girl, the concerned liberal, teaching in the reservation school.

Then one night Carly got stranded in a blizzard, and it fell to Rafe to warm her by his fire - and in his bed. For years he'd kept his heart encased in ice, but now the fire of love he lit in Carly seemed destined to set him aflame, as well.

Ah, those men who don't think they can stack up to a girl. A good read.

I didn't love this one. Rafe has been in love with Carly since high school; I always assumed at some point we would find out why, but we never really do - she just kind of symbolizes something to him, I guess. In the meantime Carly falls for Rafe although we only ever see him being kind of unpleasant to her. She can sense his wounded soul I guess? Eagle's characterization is generally really good and deep, but in this one it felt like both lead characters were kind of dumb and getting shoehorned into a romance that didn't make a ton of sense; neither of them are really attractive characters in their own right (breaking into a dude's house, Carly? being that much of a jerk, Rafe?) so it was just kind of... meh.

what a beautiful story of the encounter of rafe Strongheart , the police chief on the rez and Carly the teacher ,
I really really ADORE this story, its pace, its heroes, so real life heroes, having to face life and what it throws at you.
I loved her relationship and tenderness toward her GrandPa, his protectiveness toward his people including, even in furor his younger bro. I love so many scenes as the skating, the meeting with the grandfather, the memory scene about his Mother etc.
Very well written. A precious tale of love and belonging.
this book needs and merits a new cover (I whish for a sober one).
