About the author

Ahmad Faraz was an Urdu language Pakistani poet from Pakistan. He is considered one of the greatest modern Urdu poets of the last century. Faraz is his pseudonym or 'takhalus'. His real name was Syed Ahmad Shah.
Faraz is critically acclaimed for simplicity to his style of writing and he is often compared to Faiz Ahmed Faiz - one of the greatest poets of Pakistan. Outspoken about politics, he went into self-imposed exile during the General Zia-ul-Haq era after he was arrested for reciting certain poems at a Mushaira criticizing the military rule. He stayed for 6 years in Britain, Canada and Europe before returning to Pakistan, where he was initially appointed Chairman of Pakistan Academy of Letters and later chairperson of National Book Foundation for several years.

He was awarded the highest literary award of Pakistan Kamal-e-Fun Award in 2000 and Hilal-e-Imtiaz in 2004, in recognition of his services to literature. He returned the latter in 2006 after becoming disenchanted with the Pakistani government and its policies.

हर आशिक़ अपनी आशिक़ी की शुरूआत आपकी गजल "सुना है लोग उसे आँख भर के देखते है, सो हम भी उसकी गली से गुजर के देखते है" से करता है,और बस इसी मोहब्बत की दुनिया मैं ही खोया रहता और उसके मोजजे देखता रहता है; और सोचता है कि बस ये मोहब्बत का सफ़र यूं ही जारी रहे।

अहमद फराज मकबूल-तरीन शायर हैं। जहां एक ओर आशिकी में डूबे अशआर में महारत है वहीं दूसरी तरफ एक जजबाती, इंकलाबी और रेडिकल सूरत भी है।

वो दर्दे-दिल पर भी लिखते हैं और बेरूत, वियतनाम पर भी। जहां दिली मामलात में उनके हर्फ बेहद खूबसूरत और सुरीले हैं वहीं इंकलाबी रंग में उनके अल्फाज बेहद पैने और बेखौफ।

इस किताब में उनकी गजलें और नज्में मौजूद हैं। सब बेहद खास और खूबसूरत हैं, सब में फराज का रंग महफूज है।

It's not that Faraz Sahab has written bad poetry, but the collection in this particular book is not good. Plus the presentation and the explanation of terms is abysmal.

Faraz is considered one of the prominent poet of Urdu who have contributed some of the great peace of art to the world. I wanted to get into Urdu poetry and so I asked my friend for some worth reading poets, and so this book came into my possession.
As I was just getting into Urdu poetry, it was difficult for me to comprehend some of the words. For me the greatest difficulty was to get the meaning out of the lines which poet was trying to convey. Meaning of certain words are given in the book, but for some words I have to google it.
Though the book was a piece of work for me, it gave me my new favourite quotes. Overall it’s a great book to read at least once.
