Whitney Sanderson grew up riding horses as a member of a 4-H club and competing in local jumping and dressage shows. She has written several books in the Horse Diaries chapter book series. She is also the author of Horse Rescue: Treasure, based on her time volunteering at an equine rescue farm. She lives in Massachusetts.
I did not finish this so I won't rate it. I've read all but one of these books so I feel as if I've gotten a good sense of how the series works. And I've loved it up to now--even the books that didn't resonate the most with me still were fun to read. This is the first installment that really didn't seem as if it was from the POV of the horse. Lily knew and cared too much about the humans and talked too little about herself and the other horses. So I stopped reading, because the animal POV is why I'm here. Others may not mind the lack of that as much as I did.
A real "All Creatures Great and Small"vibe, since the book is set in 1939 and WWII is looming. My students love these, and I appreciate the historical information at the end of the books.
I can’t help but love a show jumper, which almost earned this book 4 stars. However, I don’t like books with war in them, so that brought down my rating. Strawberry roan? Welsh pony? Jumping? I’ll take any of those any day!
