A valuable reference guide for medicine in the backcountry. It's worth buying if you want to understand the current best practices in wilderness medicine. For example, I wanted to learn more about protecting myself from ticks; Chapter 39 addresses protection from blood-feeding arthropods. One caveat: this book is written for medical professionals in a compressed manner, it's not light reading and some of the treatments can only be done by a medical professional. One bonus: the hard cover version also comes with an e-book.

I've served in various roles in austere and wilderness environments for almost two decades, and I've provided medical care in some of the most challenging and remote environments in the United States. This is the handbook and trusted field guide for everyone who provides wilderness medicine, and this authoritative guide was authored by a pioneer in the field. I don't go far without my copy of this book coming with me.
