Emerging Frontiers in the Global Economy

Discreet Power: How the World Economic Forum Shapes Market Agendas

Rate this book
Discreet Power presents an inside look at one of the primary agenda-setting organizations of our day. Drawing on an ethnographic study inside of the World Economic Forum, it unveils the inner workings of an organization that lives beyond traditional governance structures, but that is actively transforming global relations. The WEF represents a relatively new type of global power-and the fact that "governance via knowledge," as opposed to formal authority, lies in our future.

The author spends the first 50 pages telling us what she did to get admitted (or not) to the different events of the WEF. The next 100 pages are basically publicity of the WEF. Please Klaus Schwab, tell us why the WEF is a great thing. Barely one single word about the criticism leveled at the WEF. There's one yoga teacher who married a member of the elite so now she can retire and write children's books. Good for her. I found this book to be a waste of time.
