So many questions to be answered. This may be a shorter story but it was perfect. I kind of got lost with who's who but I loved that almost everyone showed up. Can't wait for the next book.
Forever Surprised is the Sixth book in the Forever Bluegrass series (Bluegrass Book #20) by Kathleen Brooks. ‘Bluegrass’ combines romance and suspense, with a touch of Southern charm. A few years ago a friend recommended this author, and her many series, to me - as she had devoured every book and absolutely loved them, singing the author’s praises from high from the hilltops. So, being an avid reader who loves discovering new authors and enticing reads, I took my friends recommendations seriously, and started amassing Ms. Brooks many books, with the plan to have a huge binge session/buddy read with my friend. But with so many books on my TBR, and new, exciting ones releasing every week, I always seemed to get pulled into other books- as these just kept piling up. Since part of my yearly reading challenges for the past few years has been to dust off my TBR pile/s and read the books that have been languishing there the longest, I decided to finally dive in and get the series read. While I did ‘enjoy’ the books for the most part- I didn’t fall madly in love with them as my friend promised that I would. But that’s ok, I am really happy that she loves them as much as she does. But for me, they were just an ‘okay’ read. With plenty of small-town drama, intrigue, angst, chemistry, humour, community, family, friendship, charm, mystery, tension, danger, emotion, and suspense- the stories are about finding love unexpectedly and love conquering all. The books can all be read as standalones if you wanted, without feeling ‘lost’ or like you are missing big pieces of the picture. This is because each instalment introduces its own ‘couple’- providing plenty of romance, a dash of suspense, and some sweet development to make your heart flutter. But I have to be honest, I found there were a few issues which detracted from my overall enjoyment of the stories/series. Such as the ‘wordiness’ which really slowed the flow of the storyline at times, as there was such an overwhelming amount of detail which didn’t really ‘add’ to or propel the story in any way, except to perhaps distract from the plot. I love details, normally- but not when there are pages of descriptions, as things tend to ‘bog’ down and the flow/pace/plot gets lost amongst the detritus- and also leads to some ‘wandering’ storylines. There were also many loose ends, for me- threads that were left hanging, or not fully woven into the storyline- which I found a bit frustrating. I really wanted to love this series as much as my friend did…. but instead, I was left a little disappointed. Happy reading! 📚💙
What A great book this was! I enjoyed it tremendously! Getting updated on all the older Bluegrass couple's and their children was really enjoyable for me! It made me want to go back and re-read the previous books! I love the people in this town and how they are always there for each other...... As I read the story I smiled and smiled because the story was so endearing, warm and delightful! Thank you Kathleen for giving us all such a beautiful treat. Love all the Rose sisters...... Love the way It was mentioned near the end that all the present generations represented were like their children whom they loved and nurtured and had helped through the years. That was really sweet and emotionally moving!! I always feel so lucky that I stumbled upon this author and series!
Welcome back to Keenston, a small town that you really wish existed with characters that hold a special place in your heart. The town's beloved Rose sisters are a year older and nobody really knows how old these sprite octogenarians are. With a little time, a whole town, and a plan..... Will the townsfolk of Keenston pull off the surprise party without being found out by the original gossip seekers (and coincidentally the birthday girls)? In all the planning, there are updates on all the characters from previous books and some real!y sneaky peeks into the town mysterious "panty dropper". Lovely novella and definitely a great addition to the bluegrass and forever series. Highly recommended 5+ stars!!!!!
I almost abandoned this one. The first 3/4 of the book was agonizingly repetitious. Each and every family in town finds out by text or phone call that there will be a surprise birthday party for the sisters. They learn that the sisters will be 100. Each family is surprised that they’re 100. They are told what they must bring to the party. The older couple of each family is still completely in love and they long for grandchildren. Their adult children are all amazing and lead incredible lives. Dads are overprotective of their teen and adult daughters and threaten potential suitors until the right one doesn’t run from the bullying. Repeat until the actual surprise party, after which the book should end, but it keeps going. Skip this book in the series!!!
Kathleen Brooks is one of my favorite authors and this book is no exception. Keeneston, KY is the small town I wish I lived in and the people who live there are all like friends.
The Rose Sisters are the very foundation of Keeneston; so when they have their one hundredth birthday the whole town turns out. It has been such fun watching the generations find love, marry, and start a new generation of small town heroes. And then that generation marries, have children, and on and on.
I loved this book, Your books are some of the only books that I pre-order, as I am never disappointed. Birthday parties are always fun, lively, unexpected, and just plain fun. Toss in this beloved group of family and friends and the surprise factor jumps off the charts. Reading this book, I ffelt as I was coming home to the party myself. After all if you have read these awesome books, you were simply dropping in on a jam-up party for your extended book grandmas! Keep it up!
Overall Amanda Score:A- This was a very short read of 101 pages. Given it wasn't as epic as the other books it was still just as sweet and full of the characters we have grown to love... This book focuses more on the Rose sisters and their upcoming 100th birthday party. The whole town tries to come together to give them an amazing surprise birthday party! But will they succeed is the real question??? Those three special ladies know EVERYTHING that happens in that town.
Forever Surprised offers a heartwarming return to Keeneston, where the residents come together to celebrate the surprise 100th birthday of the Rose sisters. The quirky, lovable characters and the town's sense of community shine through as they all work to pull off the ultimate surprise party. While not as heavy on the suspense and action as the previous books, Forever Surprised is full of charm and warmth, reminding readers why they fell in love with the series in the first place. It’s a delightful, feel-good installment with plenty of laughs, heartfelt moments, and a peek into the lives of the characters fans have grown to love.
I loved this opportunity to stay in touch with all the Keeneston characters. There are so many comical situations - especially Mr. Chapman and his inability to keep himself covered up. The surprise party sure brought everyone together and reminded me of many of my own family reunions. This was the perfect novella to keep us happy until the next book we all look forward to. I would recommend this book for a light enjoyable read.
When looking for a quick, easy read - you just can't beat a Bluegrass series book. This one centers around the Rose sisters turning 100. The whole town joins together to surprise them, which is no easy feat with Lily's husband, John, around. We get glimpses at all of the couples in this book and get to see where they are at in their lives. It was a quick, easy read and not a bad way to spend a couple of hours.
Definitely do not start your journey with the Keeneston community with this book. I hadn't read the series in a while and I still have some catching up to do. Trying to keep up with the updates, family ties, friendships, marriages, etc. was difficult.
As everyone scrambled to give the Rose sisters a surprise birthday party, I realized I had missed a few things while I was immersed in Shadows Landing, lol. I still found the narration to be good and the book to be humorous and entertaining.
Happy birthday to rose's sister. I love u so much. How strong you r when u facing the challenges when u were young, the family, the career n love. When u growth up, how you give your help to the town, Marcie n Jake, then Kenna, Dani.
You r the mother of the town, took care the newcomers, Nabi, Dash, Annie,......
I love u so much n enjoy your special ice tea, long life, long health n good love
The Rose sisters 100th birthday..or so we think..was a wonderful surprise for the matriarchs of Keeneston, Kentucky. It was great not only getting an update on what's happening with everyone, but some teasers of stories to come.
Great novella..Happy Birthday Daisy Mae, Violet Fae, Lily Rae..we don't know what we'll do without you.
An amazing surprise and a great celebration for the 3 women that have made so many happily ever after. Watching the town try to surprise the rose sisters and celebrate the amazing ladies along with some catch up in the town and all those we have met over the years.
I always enjoy returning to Keeneston to catch up with all the families there! This series has been one of my favorite and every book just adds to it. It was great seeing the Rose sisters get a surprise on them , they always know what's going on in that town. Looking forward to Gabe's book, and finding the answers to all the juicy tidbits that Kathleen dropped!
What better reason than the Rose sisters birthday for a celebration! Bringing everyone back to Keeneston and the Ashton farm where this epic series started. Fab getting a glimpse into their current lives, more questions left unanswered Ms Brooks, naughty, but so like the folks in Keeneston!
Miss Kathleen Brooks does it again. If you've read anything from this author than you know what I'm talking about when I say you just can't get enough of this small town. I would highly recommend this book. I'm patiently waiting for the next book in this series to come out.
Who doesn't love the rose sisters it's a great little filler to celebrate turning 100 years old i think John has got a new rival with the know how/all with the goings on in town watch that space.I Once again there all there rallying around in a spectacular show of community at its best.
Just a short break from all the danger in Keeneston, but still a lot of love and excitement. The Rose sisters are turning 100 and the town is trying to pull off the impossible, a surprise birthday party. The one thing I love about these sisters is their funny antics, their incredible bond, and how they have always, and always will, live life to the fullest.
You know having main characters is awesome but when you read a series and you get to peak into everyone lives see what's going on it just warm you heart. Small town lots of Amazing people. Love in all its glory. Your mind wondering what's coming next but knowing the Kathleen Brooks will have your emotion rolling. I absolutely LOVE KEENESTON SO MUCH.
I adore a sneak peek into everyone's lives. And this does that so comprehensively, while not being overwhelming or dragging on! I cry every time they surprise the Rose Sisters because they're the reason all these happy couples came together to begin with. The party is actually a celebration of all the love they've brought to Keeneston!
Awesome surprise that was just completely amazing. Gave a little bit of everything about everyone in the series and just enough hints for making waiting almost unbearable for the next books.😂
I love being back in keenestown! I love all the people that live in this small town and especially the Rose sisters! Happy birthday to them!!!! Can't was it to find out who's pregnant and who the mystery couple is!
Kathleen, thank you so much for the summer surprise! We all absolutely love the Rose sisters and this surprise birthday celebration is just perfect...fun, mystery, and lots of love! Thank you, again!
Awesome, as always! I love traveling back to Keeneston. The author did a great job telling us who was who, although there were a LOT! Don't try to keep track, just enjoy!
I loved catching up with my family from Keeneston. I loved the planning as hell as the hints and secrets still floating around town..... How did they keep that from John though? Hmmm
This was a great story and we are able to catch up with all our Kenneston friends. So happy for each and every one. Many mysteries to unfold and looking forward for each reveal!!! I love Kenneston.
