Manners in the Library

Rate this book
The library is a special place! Whimsical animal characters teach kids how to behave in their school libraries through uplifting lyrics and a catchy song, which are reinforced by colorful, modern illustrations. This hardcover book comes with a CD and online music access.

As a children's librarian, I especially appreciate that this book highlights the many services and resources available in the library while also positing the library as that special "third place" in the community. The library in this book is about sharing, exploring, creating, and caring, and much emphasis is placed on being respectful of yourself, the library space, and other library users. Bravo!

The illustrations are serviceable, colorful and pretty cute, though depict rather stereotypical librarians, teachers, and kids. This could be a great read aloud for a class visit to the library, but, with as with all the Cantata Learning books I've read, I can't say I'm particularly inspired to play the accompanying CD or sing the text to the suggested tune.
