A dark, triangular fin slicing through the water can be a terrifying sight. Read the stories of the brave (and lucky) people who have survived real-life shark attacks, such as spearfisher Rodney Fox, who was grabbed by a great white, and Mick Fanning, attacked during a surfing contest. Find out which shark species are involved, what causes attacks, how dolphins have saved people, how to fight back, and much more. Fascinating facts and brilliant photography capture the drama, but don't worry―you are more likely to be struck by lightning than to be bitten by a shark!
Well, this makes me never want to swim in the ocean again!!! Just kidding, but it does make me glad I'm not a surfer and also not an idiot. Not that those are the only two types of people who get attacked by sharks, but I'd venture to say, based on this book, they're definitely two of the most likely.
This was a great overview on the topic of shark attacks with some seriously interesting facts. This book is also a great one to use when teaching about text features, as this book is rich with them.
So this 90 % of this book made me want to NEVER go near the ocean, or stream, or anything water related that wasn't hot tub or swimming pool. BUT the last chapter saves it for me! You are more likely to be killed by a dog , a bucket, a bear, and drowning that to be attacked and killed by a shark. So that allays some fears!?
