From Sanrio, who brought you Hello Kitty, Gudetama the Lazy Egg returns with a guidebook to living life to the almost fullest.
In Japanese, when you're lazy, you are referred to as gude gude. Gudetama (tama from "tamago," egg in Japanese) is the lazy egg. Gudetama likes soy sauce and being left alone. Sometimes, Gudetama wonders if we are born only to suffer.
Each page of this book is kind of packed with helpful lessons, inspiring quotes and mind-blowing advice that will have you laying around like an egg in no time! And all of it comes straight from the yolk of a Gudetama!
**Huge thanks to the publisher for sending me a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts are my own. Full review to come in my book blog.
This guide is laugh-out-loud funny! Before opening this book, I wasn’t sure how the Japanese humour of Gudetama would translate into English (whether it would work). But I think that Brian D Clark did a great job at projecting Gudetama and his sense of humour through the English language to an English-speaking audience! There are multiple sections in this book (such as how to get fit, conflict management, and speaking one’s mind) each of which Gudetama tries to guide readers to be the best (or laziest, haha) that they can be! I’ve been following Gudetama ever since Sanrio first announced him as a character, and I’m so happy to see that Penguin Random House is making books about him available here in North America! More Gudetama please!
"Once a Gudetama is eaten, it is gone and cannot be replaced."
5/5 stars
I was very stressed today, and this book knew exactly how to cheer me up. I laughed so much that I soon found myself doubling over and falling on the floor. I found myself cheering up after reading. Even now that it has been a couple of days after finishing it, I still find myself flipping through the pages and laughing to myself on how much I relate to Gudetama. I am lazy, like soy sauce, and can find any excuse out of the sky just so then I do not have to admit to myself that I have a book-buying/book-loving problem.
Gudetama is an egg who has a simple philosophy to life-Always be lazy. Maybe, not in those exact words, but very similar. It is not very hard to relate and enjoy the little troubles Gudetama goes through in this book. Although there are no life-changing discoveries I found within the pages of this book, I did see how and why Gudetama lives the way that they live. It's cool to see that even an egg can have preferences on the way it lives. Also, this book is very short, so I believe this can be read to or by anyone of any age that only wants to be humored by their inner spirit-animal and read a simple story to fill a couple minutes of their day. I would recommend this book more than Eggsistential Thoughts by Gudetama the Lazy Egg due to the mass amount of enjoyment I had gotten from this book.
I received a copy of this book via the Publisher in exchange for an honest review
This is the first time I read a Gudetama book but it's not the first time I've seen the egg. I ended up requesting this book because I was curious to learn more about Gudetama and I got about a 50/50 expected and not expected. I think the book was a very cute read that's also very encouraging but I also felt that it lacked something. I didn't really find it funny and I only really got that it was supposed to be a motivational read closer to the end of the book. That's when I went back to read the headings at each section and was like ahhh this makes more sense
Still, it was an interesting read and I can see kids enjoying this book!
I was provided this book by Penguin Random House in exchange for an honest review. I am rating this a 3.5 stars. This is my second, Gudetama the lazy egg book, that I have read and so far it is my favorite. The humor in this one was a lot more fun and it had more content. I could honestly see this book being very popular among young readers. The artwork is adorable and hilarious. The text is not only good advice, but humorous and enjoyable. This is a little more in depth than just a average picture book, it contains more words on the pages and is longer than an average picture book, but it is worth the buy and the read!
Overall, this was really cute too. There was more substance than Eggsistential Thoughts, which I enjoyed. The humor that was used throughout was really entertaining and I really enjoyed the illustrations that were featured throughout. I really did relate so some of Gudetama's behavior. He's quite relatable for an egg.
The world can be so cruelly energetic and social, but with the wisdom of Nisetama-san and Gudetama at your side, even the most anxious of days can be handled, so long as one follows the intricacies and sagely advice of this ever experienced yolk. Elling brings fans of the lovable egg icon a quaint, funny collection of tips and tricks to a lazy but relatable life. Time to be the best yolk you can be!
Gudetama is another beloved Sanrio character and unlike the other cheery characters, Gudetama is known to be lazy and have a meh attitude. This book is jammed packed with beautiful and colorful illustrations of Gudetama along with fun facts about everyone's favorite lazy egg. A fun and inspiring book for anyone who is a fan of the beloved Gudetama. A great book for a gift or for the coffee table.
It’s not as cute as other Gudetama books that I’ve read before but I appreciate the effort. I think it’s quite nice how this book in an adorable and slightly humorous way tries to educate its readers on how to live better and be better. It tries but I wasn’t truly impressed. Nonetheless, it was enjoyable and I just love Gudetama. (low 3.5/5)
As a massive gudetama fan, I've always seen the book series in forbidden planet and always wanted to read them, and I was not disappointed. A little spin on self-help books but actually gives some good advice which I was surprised about. Get reading this if you're a die-hard gudetama fan like myself!
Nisetama-san and Gudetama provide a guide to living life like the lazy egg themself! A fun guide to the popular Japanese cartoon character, now a star of Netflix!
this was an XMas gift from a friend. i read it yesterday while cooking (it's very short - basically a picture book). it's about eggs (i think?) and their unique (lazy? depressed?) view of life. i'm afraid it went completely over my head, because i didn't really connect with either Gudetama or the person dressed as Gudetama :(
