First half was highly intriguing... opened the door to some great inquiry and further research topics. But then the book turned very mystical - beyond self-help and more stemmed in cosmology, chakras and energy work, meditation, tarot, animal spirits, etc. It covered too much and tried to apply too many practices to the foundational principles of the archetype. It needed to be more definitive and have stronger ties to Jung's concepts.

Agreed with the previous reviewer. Started well by covering Freud and Jung and the collective and personal unconscious and archetypes in pop culture and then rapidly switched to interviewing 'clairvoyants' 'shamans' 'intuitive healers' with extended advice on how to use different colour crystals to heal 'chakras', overview of astrological signs and the importance to match the tarot cards artwork to personal taste. Highly disappointing. Only giving it 2 stars instead of one for the introductory chapters.

The author makes a statement like 'if women attracted you for money try to be more of a warrior and less of a father'. Wow what a gross misunderstanding of human psychology and archetypes. It is the warrior archetype that supposedly 'provides' so it is attractive to the 'hearth-keeper woman' who wants to stay at home and paint her nails at her leisure (after the chores are done).

The 2 useful strategies are - look through a list of archetypes and see which ones relate to you and decide to change/get rid of the negative ones and write your life's story. Well the trouble is that - you dont just 'get rid' of the troublesome archetypes by 'releasing them back to the Universe' no just writing your work story is straightforward or useful without structure help or insights.

For those writing - look into the Self Authoring program online - helped me a bit. For the archetypes - well you can find plenty of lists online.

As for the worth WITH the archetypes directly - Internal Family Systems therapy - was helpful to me - they don't refer to them as archetypes but more like sub-personalities but the principle can be applied to archetypes too. The books are geared to self work and go into much detail on how to TRANSFORM the archetypes in a safe and coherent way - not just 'in your imagination sitting down with your 'Queen' and telling her to back off ' as Jone's book recommends.

Save your money and find a better book, preferably by a Jungean analyst or someone with a degree in psychology.

The book begins with a description of archetypes with plenty of examples and descriptions. She includes information about Carl Jung, Caroline Myss and others to further explain the concepts. Several chapters of the book provide useful exercises and pointers on how to do the self work necessary for personal growth and development. She also provides examples from her own life to further clarify points, which I found helpful. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who is interested in making positive changes in their life and looking to focus on the positives both in their personal life and the world at large.

As my reading habits tend to go by, I read what I find to be of the most benefit at the time, rather than begin and finish a book before starting the next. This book isn't long or a difficult read, but my reading switched to other books and genres before it was time to finish this one.

First half is mostly informative and educational. There's a section in the middle where the author asks you to do some fairly serious introspection and that can be really useful if you're not the kind of person who does that regularly on your own. The second half of the book gets into astrology and chakras and some other topics that are hard for me to take seriously. One of the best things about this book is that it sums up archetypes nicely and asks you to use the concept to analyze and improve yourself. She also cites the works of many other authors so you can continue to learn from others on this topic. If the last few chapters weren't present this would be a solid 4 star book.

This one is like a compilation of EVERYTHING:) maybe a little too much. It started pretty good with all information about symbolism, Jung, archetypes. Then somehow got into every possible spiritual tool. It was a little confusing and a little forced. Still can be read to learn a little bit about everything.

This book is all over the place. It seems that the Author doesn't really understand the meaning of an archetype. What you get is tones of names which only make sense to Americans, and maybe some European, movie buffs; some very local, opposed to universal interpretation of symbols; an insufficient and heavily abridged crash course on Astrology, Arch Angeles, spirituality and other subjects.
