Horatio Slice: Guitar Slayer of the Universe

Rate this book
Horatio Slice is NOT dead. Gunner Wilkes knows a secret. Heartthrob rock star Horatio Slice is not dead. Sure, Gunner may turn heads with his big brain, good looks, and gym-built body, but his mind is on one thing only: returning his all-time favorite rocker and secret fanboy crush to Earth. Yes, there are VAMPIRE PIRATES. Fame and stardom were starting to wear thin for Horatio Slice, but when he was sucked through a magical portal while on stage at Madison Square Garden into a jail cell in a strange dimension called Merona, his confusion quickly cleared upon meeting his sexy, dark-haired cellmate, a vampire pirate named Snake Vinter. Snake filled Horatio in about life in the universe, jumping from dimension to dimension, and craftily avoiding the wrath of gnarly-mask-wearing leather queen King Meridian—a guy nobody wants to cross. The metal ship is named Frances. And on Snake’s metal ship live eight identical blond Humerians, who proudly display their bodies in carefully crafted trousers, as well as a wild assortment of untamable, man-hungry travelers and stowaways. But someone has hacked into Frances’ mainframe, demanding that Snake and crew deliver Horatio Slice to King Meridian, or feel his wrath. All the zany magical comedy of Mel Brooks, an adventure not dissimilar to Indiana Jones meets Barbarella, and men, men, horny men, of all shapes and sizes, Horatio Slice, Guitar Slayer of the Universe is wild, fun, pornographic fiction for anyone who loves the masculine, the feminine, and all identities in between. Even more so, it’s for anyone who can handle laughs that won't stop coming.

Oleander Plume plans on living until she is 100, so the fact that she didn’t start writing until the age of 50 doesn’t bother her at all.

Her short stories have been featured in best-selling erotic anthologies from Cleis Press and Riverdale Ave Books. Horatio Slice: Guitar Slayer of the Universe, published by Go Deeper Press, is Oleander’s first (but hopefully not last) full-length novel.

Gunner Wilkes doesn’t believe that Horatio Slice, his favorite rock star, died two years ago during a concert. Extensive research convinced him that Horatio actually disappeared through a portal into another dimension. Gunner uses his college education and skills to build a device to return Horatio to Earth. The rock star appears naked in Gunner’s room. Sex and hilarity ensue.

This book pulled me in right from the beginning and kept me riveted until the end. Though I was tempted to read in one sitting on a long flight, I decided it was better to pace myself and prolong my visit with Horatio, Gunner, Snake Vinter, a sexy vampire pirate, the identical oompa loompas, and a motley assortment of delightful characters, human and alien.

Horatio is on the run, trying to avoid capture by King Meridian. After a quick stop at his house to pick up clothes, the boys embark on an erotic journey through the universe, where enemies abound, Horatio’s music is lethal, Gunner finds himself, and enduring friendships are formed.

This highly imaginative, amusing, engaging, and wildly adventurous story is totally full of steamy hot man sex, but there’s a whole lot of love here too.

I’m happy.

I can’t remember the last time the first chapter of a book pulled me in and anchored me, center stage, to a fascinating tale. If you like pirate spaceships, sexy men demonstrating how good they are in bed with each other, and rock and roll, then Horatio's story is for you! I couldn't put it down until I finished. While I followed Horatio on his wild hero’s journey, he and his mates not only endeared themselves to me, they captivated and mesmerized me. But more importantly, this riveting tale champions the phrase: love is love is love. A must read.

I don't know what to say about this book without spoiling the story but it was a fun, very sexual and entertaining read. Horatio Slice is a popular rock musician who was thought to have perished in a tragic accident during one of his concerts. It turns out he's not dead and very much kicking and always rearing to go.

I enjoyed learning about the universe that was built up in the story. Learning about the different species and following the crew along as they traveled and tried to avoid Meridian was fantastic. I liked getting to know all the characters and the people Snake, Horatio, and Gunner and the other members of the crew got to meet along with the situations they found themselves in.

I think my only complaint is that it's so sexually motivated. The book is about 85% sex with about 15% plot. Sex is always on the mind and all the characters are always ready to satisfy everyone else's appetite or die trying. This would also happen during dire situtaions that made me scream "time and place >.<" It wasn't a bad thing per se but I had to intersperse re-reading other books or starting new books during my reading of this book just to give me a break from it all.

A free copy was provided to me in exchange for an honest read.

No…Horatio Slice is NOT dead!!!

And I have to say, I for one…move over Gunner *nudges hot guy to the side*…love that he is very much alive in all his sexy, hunky, beauty. Yes, I did say beautiful!

Ms. Plume writes in such a descriptive way, that it’s easy to see each and every one of her characters—and yes, they are indeed gorgeous, sexually charged, men. I want to run my tongue down Horatio’s long, muscular body and see if he tastes as good as he looks. Gunner, an innocent, albeit not for very long with Horatio and Snake both looking to ‘teach’ him the art of crazy hot non-stop sex.

I found myself laughing out loud more than a few times. My husband asked me one night ‘what in hell are you laughing at?’ I blushed and said “This guy, um, these men…you know, never mind…would take me too long to explain!”

This book blew me away. The characters are larger than life and full of fun, and not to mention, every ready for a totally carnal adventure! Calling it a ‘page turner’ is an understatement. It will suck you in and keep you flipping until the very last word…which although a great ending…a bit of a bummer. I wanted the adventure to keep going!

More please!

Horatio Slice likes to have sex. Like, a lot. And he’s pretty indiscriminate about who he has it with, be it human, vampire, or Humerian. As long as he gets the D on the regular, this rock n’ roll stud is satisfied. Well, for a very short moment, at least.

In this rollicking adventure, Oleander Plume hits soaring heights of imagination previously unseen in m/m erotica. Due to the multiple sexy scenes in this sci-fi tale, my boner suffered serious whiplash. Up, down, up, down—it was never ending! Like Horatio himself, I didn’t care who he was having sex with either, as long as there was non-stop s*cking and f*cking going on. And believe me, the sex in this book is relentless. In the best way possible, of course!

Horatio Slice may be the Guitar Slayer of the Universe, but in my eyes, he’s the beefy rock god put on this Earth (and this solar system, apparently) to satiate the needs of every horny man and alien in every dimension. Lucky us!

I received a free copy of Horatio Slice by Oleander Plume and voluntarily chose to review it. I enjoy sci-fi and mm fiction, especially the intersection of the two. This book was an entertaining, sexy read. Gunner was a fun main character, both initially naive and well-educated in all things computer. He falls under the thrall of his hero, the eponymous Horatio Slice, and proceeds to follow him around the universe. Horatio is trying to escape being kidnapped by a great villain, the alien Meridian. Since Horatio is friends with Snake, a vampire pirate, Gunner too becomes part of the crew. The adventures of Gunner, Horatio, and the pirates are mostly X-rated, but humorous, and all lead to the unexpected conclusion. The book provided a nice break from depressing reality!

I loved this. And boy oh boy was it hot. We are talking volcano levels of heat.

Great story woven around some hot sex scenes (I had to stop reading in public places). There were plenty of laughs, some awesome action, and a fair bit of romance.

Why are you still reading my review when you could be reading the adventures of Horatio Slice???

Horatio Slice: Guitar Slayer of the Universe (ARC) was graciously provided to me by IndiGo Marketing & Design for an honest review.

"Intergalactic Love.."

Oh my goodness...where did this book come from? This amazing, beautiful, thought-provoking, incredible, humorous, and sizzling book? Horatio Slice: Guitar Slayer of the Universe, by Oleander Plume, blew me away. Blew-Me-Away.

It's been a nice amount of time since I've read anything from the Sci-Fi genre, and, I'm beginning to wonder why? This particular book, while long and wonderfully detailed, is written very well. With it's gorgeous, realistic and unique descriptions of the vast components of the never-ending universe, to it's heart-breaking, heart-warming and incredibly realistic emotions of all of the characters, I didn't want it to end. With it's theme of a young man following his heart, in order to rescue his idol, his savior, I found myself forgetting about everything else around me just so that I could join him in his adventures that came along with his rescue.

Horatio Slice: Guitar Slayer of the Universe, is a great story about Gunner Wilkes, computer genius, and, Horatio Slice, famed lead singer of the band Monotony, and their escapades through the universe, as they try their best in avoiding a seemingly mad man, who has his eyes on Horatio...

Wow. I think it's safe to sat, that, I loved this book. I love stories about love, destiny, and, redemption. These kinds of stories just bring out all of the feels for me. Throw-in lots of different kinds of adventures, mind-boggling portals, and, lots of hot, off-the-charts, and sizzling amounts of kinkiness, then, I'm all set for a glued-to-ones-seat kind of read. While at first, I was kind of freaked out as to the amount of characters, along with an overly-detailed blurb, but, boy, was I glad that I had continued, because all of that did not justify the overall gripping and well-paced plot that I never saw coming..

As mentioned briefly, Horatio Slice: Guitar Slayer of the Universe is about a young man, Gunner who because of an absolutely heart-breaking past, decides to create a means of coming to the rescue of his idol, Horatio. Upon doing so, he inadvertently opens his eyes, among other things, to new and amazing discoveries, that not only blew his mind, but, mine as well. These new discoveries, of the universe and beyond, were written in such a creative and beautiful way, that I found myself constantly saying, "wow...wow..wow.." and actually pondering that age old question of, "what if?"

This book probably has one of the best group of secondary characters that I've ever come across. I loved them immensely. Collectively, I found myself laughing, even snort-giggling, cheering and even bawling my eyes out because of what some had to endure.. It really doesn't make a difference, to me, that some had more of a developed background than others, because it all fit together like a well-fitted glove.

*Achem* I'm just going to come right out and say it.. HOLY COW! The chemistry and the level of heat was beyond anything, ANYTHING, that I've ever read before. Ever. It actually contains the most sizzling, it's-so-hot-I-can't-touch-it-because-I'll-burn-my fingers kind of yumminess. *pause* And, then...there's the tenderness. I melted. A lot.

Horatio Slice: Guitar Slayer of the Universe is a book that I thoroughly enjoyed reading, and, plan on re-reading again. Regardless of the few editing issues, and the few times that I had to re-read something that was a bit confusing, I absolutely loved this book and all of its characters, who I hope to see more of again in the future..

*star rating: 4.5 stars*

Okay, stop whatever you are doing and pop over to Amazon (or wherever you buy you books) and grab a copy of Horatio Slice, Guitar Slayer of the Universe. Actually, you might as well grab a few copies, because this is a book you are going to want to lend . . . but sharing your own sticky, dog-eared copy might be a tad embarrassing.

I have no idea how she did it, but Oleander Plume has somehow managed to capture an orgasm on paper. Seriously, this is the most gloriously debauched, ridiculously entertaining, and brilliantly erotic book I have ever read - and I read a lot! It has cute boys, sexy rock stars, hot vampire pirates, stunningly adorable aliens, and so much hot, messy, explosive sex. Horatio Slice is unabashedly pornographic, but it is also full of adventure, ribald humor, and even some genuine moments of adrenaline-fueled terror.

Seriously, this is about as good as it gets, as close to perfect as a book full of boys can be. :)

Gunner is one of the cutest, happiest protagonists in erotic fiction, a young man who gets whisked off on an adventure with his rock star idol, finding himself and his heart along the way. He is innocent, without being naive, and just . . . well, happy. Horatio (inter-dimensional rock star) and Snake (intergalactic space pirate) are two of the dreamiest hunks you are likely to meet, on or off the page, friends, lovers, brothers-in-arms, and mentors to young Gunner. The three of have more sex than should be humanly possible, in more positions and combinations that is humanly possible, but there is an underlying theme of love, respect, and camaraderie beneath it all. For me, though, it is Sugar who steals the book, an impossibly beautiful genderqueer alien who, along with seven identical Humerians, keeps the boys in line, the ship running, and the (oh so yummy) juices flowing. I have never fallen so completely in love with a fictional character, and never so desperately desired to knock the heroes down and insert myself into a scene.

Normally, I tend to sit down and binge on a read, devouring pages over a night or two, but Horatio Slice is one I have lingered over, allowing myself the taste of a chapter (or two) every night, and prolonging the ecstasy. I have been a tad silly and over-the-top in talking about it, but I mean every word. Oleander Plume has serious talent, and an imagination to match. I am not saying the fate of the universe depends on you reading this . . . but do you really want to risk it?

Can I give it 6 stars? Never mind. I'm giving it 6 stars!

*I received a free copy in exchange for an honest review through the MMRG DBML program

Synopsis: Gunner is a college student, who is obsessed with his favourite rock star. He is even more obsessed because of the fact that the man supposedly died on his birthday two years ago. Gunner, however, is sure that he didn't, after watching footage of the disappearance from his concert over and over. He has a master plan to try and get Horatio Slice back. The plan works, and Gunner is overcome. But then someone else follows Gunner, and tells them that the man who stole Horatio in the first place, Meridian, is after him again. They tell Gunner that Meridian won't care how innocent he is in all of this; he will want to hurt him, so Gunner goes with them to another dimension. There are adventures and strange creatures galore, and Gunner learns about all the worlds out there.

What I liked: this was a fun ride, that never took itself too seriously. Beware, for those to whom this matters; there is a lot of sex with many, many partners that is (mostly) not essential to the plot, but that is definitely good fun. I liked that Horatio and Gunner were kind of made for each other, but that it took them going to another dimension to find each other, since they definitely wouldn't have even seen each other on Earth. I also liked that they were both up for anything, and that the entire crew was caring and didn't want others to suffer hard ships.

What I didn't like: honestly, nothing. If you are looking for a sex-filled amusing romp, this is the story for you.

Well if you ever wanted to know what a script for a porno looks like, this is your book lol. Full of orgies, bukkake, multiple orgasms, train sex, you name it. All while being space pirates, raiding, looting and running from bad guys and all sorts of creatures who would eat you in many different ways. And the dialogue is snarky and funny and sometimes so sweet and sappy it makes your teeth hurt. This book was a trip for sure.

Gunner knows a secret. Guitarist Horatio Slice isn't really dead. After watching video after video, he's figured out that Horatio was transported somewhere. So he spends two years of his schooling collecting things he could and creating a program to open a portal to bring Horatio back home, where he belongs. When Horatio comes through, Gunner gets his first surprise. He's naked. And hung. The next surprise comes in the form of a vampire, Snake, who followed. And Snake brings bad news. They have to run and now. Gunner enters a whole new world as he gets his cherry popped in a 3 way, meets 8 beings that are sex on legs that show him how to have a good time and soon travel all over dimensions meeting crazy ass beings that do crazy ass things. And trying to keep Horatio safe from some psycho who wants him, while during all this, having more sex and orgies than seem humanly possible. But them again, Gunner and Horatio are the only humans and everyone puts their libidos in overdrive.

This is one hell of a cast of characters. Gunner and Horatio have kinda fallen for each other, but screw everything that looks at them sideways. Snake, has to have Sugar like no other, but they have orgies as well. And their crew seems to grow by leaps and bounds. All of whom join the orgy party in one way or another. There are 7 more like Sugar, some kind of humanoid, who walk around in pants with their cock and balls and asses hanging out. (talk about crotchless pants) They end up with 3 Vixens who are smart as whips and basically create just about anything. They vibrate when horny. Almost like a purr. There’s werewolves who are cute as can be with both male and female parts so the can reproduce. And those are the good guys. I honestly don't know how to describe these guys much more lol. They are all beautiful. The main cast of characters anyway. They encounter those that aren't. They all have sex like every other breath. Even when on adventures, they stop to make quickies lol. They are snarky and fun loving though. Each has their own distinctive personalities. Some are more feminine. But each brings their own fun. The comments traded back and forth are always good for a laugh.

Definitely an interesting read lol. They put a whole new meaning to the Kama sutra. Lol. And a whole new meaning to orgies. Happy reading!

A free copy of this book was provided by the author in exchange for an honest review.
I'd give this a 3.5* rating, but we'll have to go with 4. I have no idea what I just read. It wasn't bad, and my wavering rating doesn't reflect the quality of the story as much as my own confusion and feelings about the book. Because, honestly, I have no idea what I just read.

I'd love to say this is a love story, and I suppose it is, but if you try to separate one relationship from the other, it would completely spoil the whole idea of the story. These characters live in a world of their own, where sharing really is caring, and yet they manage to respect each other's individual relationship and boundaries (yes, they still have some...). Usually I dont warm up to this kind of free loving, sex-with-everybody mentality in the slightest, and I'm still not sure what I feel about it, but somehow its okay with this story because this story would be totally dysfunctional if it was any less shameless and naughty.

I only wish there had been more of Horatio's POV, because that's where the emotions and feelings and all the gooeyness comes from. Other than that, I don't think you can add much to this book. For anyone looking for something different to read, something completely out-of-the-box and oddly entertaining, this might just be the book for you.

If you don't like steamy, explicitly written sex, do not read this book. If you do? You'll thoroughly enjoy it. It's a sexy, seriously entertaining story with a stellar cast of characters. The plot flows along at a perfect pace, the characters effortlessly detailed, and wonderfully erotic. I don't usually enjoy M/M pairings but the beautifully androgynous men in this book are definitely an exception. I binge-read this book, which I received for free from the author and voluntarily am leaving a review for it. Honestly, the cover drew me in such a way that I was going to purchase it regardless. :P This is a book I did not want to put down, and when I reached the end, my first question to Ms. Plume was "is there going to be a sequel?" For any who are interested in following the sexy crew, their adventures are available in serial format on the Radish app. I highly recommend you do so!

This was a funny and wild ride from beginning to end. Or, I suppose I should say from "top to bottom" *wink, wink*
It is over-the-top fun and one crazy adventure after another for the motley crew that becomes found family by the novel's conclusion. Plume has created a vibrant and colorful world that provides a great backdrop for all the sex. SO. MUCH. SEX. All the sex, with all the people and...well, no spoilers.
If you like lots of hot male-on-male action this is a must read. Plus it's funny. Genuinely laugh out loud or more often, groan out loud funny in parts.
Sometimes, the sheer volume of sex can be almost overwhelming with a lot of moving parts, but Plume has a great way of reigning it in before all is lost. And there is a surprising amount of friendship/heart that keeps it all going.

There is quite a simple plot for such a long book. With many different characters, races and locations, much of the time is spent contextualising. However, what takes up the vast majority of the book is the sex, in every location with just about everyone in many different permutations. There is, what seems to be, the ubiquitous questions around whether what is felt is lust or a real commitment but this is done with a light touch. Character development and differentiation is clearly described and all of the characters, even the baddies, have good qualities. There is very occasional violence and on each occasion there seems little need for it other than adding variety to the proceedings. This is not a funny book but it is light and somewhat witty. It is certainly an easy read.

There is passion and emotion between the lead characters and certainly a bond exists which is not inclusive and the central characters grow in number throughout the book. The benefit of this is that there is variety; the down side is that there is no real complexity to the characters and themes are repeated.

With no real tension, brief chapters and action throughout drive the pace of the book. It is the lack of any real complexity to the plot that allows for the layering of sexual activity to continue without boring the reader.

At the end of the book the plot themes are resolved in a way that allows for the author to write more books in this world although there is cliffhanger to assure this.
