A Freak Mishap

The Behemoth returns from their latest mission only to find themselves tapped again by the Alliance Intelligence Division. A message was received from an unknown part of the galaxy, filtered through dozens of relays before arriving at the home world. An old friend seems to be stranded and needs assistance yet they were unable to convey proper coordinates.

Meanwhile, The Crystal Font finds itself in the middle of nowhere near an alien world emitting a strange, unknown energy field. Stuck with a broken engine and unsure if help is on the way, they’re forced to perform repairs on their own. But as they attempt to rectify their situation, they are attacked by enemy forces.

Racing against time and fighting for survival, The Crystal Font knows they may never make it home but after defying the odds so many times, they refuse to give up. Forced to visit the strange world, they have no idea The Behemoth is looking for them or the bizarre information they may uncover on the idyllic landscape of the planet below.

This is almost a short story. In fact, all of the latest books in this series seem to be very short. That’s not a bad thing if you’re wanting a quick read. I’ll know in the future that these books won’t take long to read so I can work one in between other books.

The best reason I can give for these being short works is that this author chooses to focus on one specific mission and nothing else. We don’t have multiple starships sailing around the universe doing various things and being written about while all these separate stories eventually funnel into an ending. No, here it’s about the Behemoth and a familiar Kielan ship, the Crystal Font (don’t ask we what kind of ships name is that!).

The plot to this whole book is that the Crystal Font has gotten itself semi-lost in space. They are near a man-made buoy which is partially working and they send out a message that eventually reaches back to Kielan HQ. The Behemoth has just arrived back at Kielan HQ and is contacted by the Chief of Intelligence. She wants the Behemoth to immediately go back out and find the Crystal Font. That’s not a real problem since going on missions is what the Behemoth is expected to do, only this is a rescue mission with no idea where to start. That message that came from the Crystal Font was partially garbled, leaving the location coordinates unreadable.

So, that’s the Behemoth’s mission and that’s what the book is about. There’s one small little side story about the Kielan deep cover agent, but it really has nothing to do with the main story. So, just read the book and enjoy the good writing knowing that you won’t have to involve you brain very much in figuring out what’s going to happen in the end. Oh, there are surprises, but most of them you’ll figure out well in advance.

It’s a little disconcerting that there’s nothing mentioned at the end of the book about the next book in the series. I guess I’ll just have to keep an eye out for it’s announcement.

Behemoth continues

In the least book Behemoth is tasked to find the Crystal Font. The Font has sent a message asking for help, but the message failed to give a location. Can the Behemoth find them. The Font having found itself in a strange area of space, the main jump engines are down and the only hope is from a strange planet. There is a little bit of Star trek NTG in this story, but loved it. Looking forward to the next book in this series.

Fast action

From start to finish, an adventure. I really enjoyed the journey full of twists and turns, not knowing the outcome until you with gasping breath, dared to turn the next page.. Can't wait to read the next one coming..

This book is far better than many of the previous books in this series. I actually found the plot interesting and was invested.

It turns out the 'Crystal Font' survived the battle at the research station and the behemoth is tasked with finding them and bringing them home.

The Crystal Font finds itself orbiting a planet far outside civilized space. And the planet is emitting large amounts of energy that they need to harness. At first it seems like the enemy has a presence on the planets with battles taking place. But it appears these enemies are made out of pure energy.

It turns out the facility on the planet was created by the Ela (a long extinct race) for leisure and entertainment. Deva managed to get a copy of their history, I hope this is brought up in the next 2 books, i will be disappointed if it's just thrown to the side.

As is standard with this series there are a number of spelling/grammatical errors.

The combat in this series is getting really stale. There is only so many times I can read "and I hit my afterburner/ the enemy shields flared" etc, without it getting boring.

Finally we are seeing a little development with one of the characters. Clea was offered the position of 2IC of the alliance intelligence division. While it's only for a moment we see her struggle with the thought of leaving the crew of the Behemoth, at least it's something.

Predictable

While reading this story, I was reminded of the Star Trek episode titled "Shore Leave" where the Enterprise crew encounters a planet that catered to an extinct races need for entertainment. Nevertheless, it was a entertaining experience....but highly predictable as to the outcome.

Not really sure what this episode was about, it really didn't contribute anything to the progression of the series that couldn't have been handled in a couple of chapters. More endless space battles that a identical to the previous books don't contribute anything orher you know how to cut and paste.

A Must Read!

This book is Book 8 of the series, but can be read as a "stand alone" volume. Lots of action that leaves you on the edge of your seat. I will admit that you will get more enjoyment and pleasure if you have read the preceding Books 1 - 7.

Exciting and fun

Very entertaining read. Would be better if the author did a better job of tracking who has what weapon and what defenses... If you don't get too lots in the details it's a very good read.

The books in this series are light reading - essentially the literary equivalent of watching an episode of Star Trek, but are none the worse for it. Thoroughly enjoyable!

The saga continues. More confrontations, a search for a missing ship and discovery of a strange planet and remains of a extinct race.
