For the first time in her life, 18-year-old Emily Benson is on her own. For three glorious summer months she'll be sharing a house on Ocean Island with six housemates, people she's never met. This summer adventure was her parents' graduation gift to her, and Emily hasn't been this excited in her life. She intends to sleep late, party into the night, lie on the beach, snorkel, water ski and do all sorts of fun summer activities.
But nothing about summer on Ocean Island goes as Emily expected. There's an awkward uneasiness among her housemates, and Emily soon learns one of the reasons why: She bears an uncanny resemblance to the girl one of her housemates used to date . . . until she died in a horrible accident. Or was it an accident . . . ?
Someone starts playing sick practical jokes. Then someone locks Emily in a freezer. Someone wants Emily dead. One of her housemates is a murderer.
Now all Emily wants is to get off Ocean Island alive.
A riveting page-turner by master of young-adult suspense John Hall.
As a teenager, John Hall devoured a diet of classic horror movies such as Halloween, Friday the 13th and A Nightmare on Elm Street. Some of his more recent favorite horror movies are the Scream and Saw franchises. When he began reading adult horror, his instant favorites were Stephen King, John Saul and Dean Koontz. Most recently he's a fan of dark suspense authors such as Gillian Flynn, Ruth Ware, Shari Lapena, B.A. Paris, A.J. Finn, Liv Constantine and Lisa Jackson. John Hall's novels will appeal to fans of Karen McManus, E. Lockhart, Natasha Preston, Lois Duncan, Joan Lowery Nixon, R. L. Stine and Caroline Cooney. John grew up in Brooklyn, with a younger brother and over twenty cousins (yes, it's true!) but now lives in New York City. Readers can email him at johnhallauthor@gmail.com.
This is a short story that involves Emily who spends the summer with 6 housemates ahs has not me. It's a way to relax and get ready for college. I thought this one was just OK. It was so obvious who was responsible for everything that was happening. There was little suspense and just annoying teenagers.
I am giving this book 3 stars because it kept me interested! However, the writing wasn't spectacular and the main character was such a goody-goody - almost boring. I did not fully see the ending coming, so that's another good thing. If you are looking for a QUICK read, then by all means, pick this book up, but don't expect a real challenge.
I enjoyed this book and read it very fast in 2 days, lots of twists and teen drama. The only thing I disliked was a push from the author to blame all the events that were happening on one person, it didn't feel right as we hadn't got to know that character yet,so felt out of place and forced. I loves tvis authors other books.
