Most cops walk a beat. She dances to one.

Undercover and using moves she didn’t learn at the Detroit Police Academy, Harlee races to identify the cold case murderer who has struck again. While juggling a charming ex-fiancé, a friend with benefits, and a partner who is too darn handsome for his own good, Harlee begins socializing with the potential suspects outside of work... until the killer learns of her double identity.

This mystery has a perfect blend of humor, sexiness and suspense. It is the first novel in the Harlee's Whodunit in the Motor City Series.

First Case Scenario by Annemarie DeClark is a fast-paced yet exciting read. The whole story caught my attention immediately. It was easy to connect with the characters, especially with the main protagonist. Brilliant mystery. I was intrigued by what Harlee was going through and how she would juggle it all. She's a new leading woman to watch out for...similar to Stephanie Plum. I laughed so hard and was entertained from beginning to end. Danger, suspense, and mystery all woven into one stunning novel. There's even a bit of romance included, too. Addictive. Annemarie DeClark has been added to my favorites list. I can't wait to see what she comes up with next time. Overall, I highly recommend this book to all.

Daughter of a MSP Homeside Detective

I also grew up in Michigan and my father worked for 15 years of his career as a Michigan State Police Homeside Detective. We lived in Lansing, the Headquarters were in Charlotte and his work centered around the greater Detroit area.
That made reading this novel even more interesting for me; getting to hear familiar references. What I liked was the balance between believable seriousness surrounding the stories conflict and providing the same amount of levity. I found myself trying to steal time away to read a few chapters, as often as possible.
When creating future stories focused around Harlee and her role as a Homeside Detective, I’d be willing to share some of my dad’s experiences. He kept binders with all of his notes on each of his cases!

This was a thoroughly enjoyable mystery with a fun blend of thrills and humour. I am a sucker for books set in Detroit, so I was eager to check out this Motor City Mystery. DeClark does a brilliant job of drawing the reader in and Harlee is a brilliant lead character. Definitely worth checking out if you're looking for a rollicking good read with some great dialogue.

After reading a few “heavier” books lately, it was a delight to read a lighter mystery, like First Case Scenario, and exclaim, “Move over Stephanie Plum!” because Detective Harlee O’Connor has arrived in a rollicking mystery sure to keep you entertained, as Harlee and a cast of quirky family and friends come to life and the audacious Harlee goes undercover in a strip club to follow leads, unearth juicy details, and solve a cold case and a recent murder that have a common murder weapon. The story, set in the Motor City –Detroit, moves along easily with very good writing and is lots of fun, slightly salacious, and a fairly good mystery, all of which make me impatient for the second book in the “Harlee’s Whodunit in the Motor City” series -“Second to None”!
