Claudie Arseneault is an asexual and aromantic-spectrum writer hailing from the very-French Québec City. Her long studies in biochemistry and immunology often sneak back into her science-fiction, and her love for sprawling casts invariably turns her novels into multi-storylined wonders. The most recent, City of Strife, came out on February 22, 2017! Claudie is a founding member of The Kraken Collective and is well-known for her involvement in solarpunk, her database of aro and ace characters in speculative fiction, and her unending love of squids. I hadn't remembered just how much I loved Claudie's writing. This online short was a piece that could very easily be a scene out of a longer story. It tells a moment in time between Lemon and Salt, two performers who are also lovers in a not-disclosed cyberpunk styled world.
When the tabloids talk about how they are each nothing without the other, the two of them decide to put on a show in which Lemon does the first half and Salt does the second. And it turns out that this even excites their audience more thoroughly than they have when they've performed together.
It was a delightful story about subverting expectations and included the lovely non-binary Lemon and they're lady lover Salt. It is available here: https://www.patreon.com/posts/lemon-s...
My opinion This was a last-minute read for Diversity Bingo 2017 for me and I'm so, so glad I chose this. "Lemon & Salt" was a quick read, and a lovely one indeed. Super cute with great puns. Even though it was just a short story, I loved the characters and their relationship, and I loved reading about a queerplatonic relationship like this. Highly recommended!
