Ken Bebelle has been an avid reader of fantasy, science fiction, and comic books his entire life. His first foray into writing was in the eighth grade with a sword and sorcery fantasy story stored on a 5.25” floppy disk.

Ken and his co-author, Julia Vee, recently finished Ebony Gate, an Asian-inspired contemporary fantasy set in the Pacific Rim. Ebony Gate was acquired by Claire Eddy at TOR and will debut in summer 2023 as the first in a trilogy. Ken and Julia have also self-published another series, Seattle Slayers, an urban fantasy set in a post-apocalyptic Seattle. In his spare time, Ken is married, has two grown children, ponders the cyberpunk novel that he has yet to write, and tries to grow tomatoes in his meager backyard.

Fair weather friends

Ya never have to decide who has your back these days! As the cold weather aliens decimated Earth's population, it really reduced the need to chose. But the Dub core volunteers are 110% always there. Thick or thin. With the new invasive Needle tech, it's now in Hot or Cold places. They can go everywhere. The Hot safe spaces for humanity are open to Alien Incursion!

Ended Too Soon

Great writing and character development. I was committed to the characters, and guessing what was next. Crap, end of the book. Gotta get the next one, I can't leave them hanging!

I purchased this book soon after reading the short story prequel to it, The Needle. The prequel set a fast pace and Alien Incursion doesn’t disappoint in that regard either. It’s loaded with action, from start to end. It also has a great cast of tough and often course characters who bring the tale to life. I find it hard to pick a favourite between Cam and Sasha, but with her railgun and fearless attitude, I think Sasha may have the edge.

I was a bit sad that Dr Beaufort didn’t play a major part in book one. I liked her character immediately in The Needle and she did invent the first weapon to effectively take down a Ringhead after all. But she probably would have been a little out of place in a combat role anyway, so I guess it was for the best.

One thing that had me a little confused initially was the start of chapter 9. This chapter rewinds to an earlier part of the timeline, but the transition wasn’t that obvious (at least not to me). So, I was kind of shocked that some soldiers that had apparently died earlier in the tale, suddenly returned to the story unharmed. I thought that maybe the Ringheads had cloned the dead soldiers and returned them for some reason. It eventually dawned on me that there had been a transition in the timeline and then it finally all made sense.

Don’t let my confusion deter you though, this is an excellent story with a great deal to offer. Recommended!

Alien global warming

The aliens begin to turn earth into a deep freeze. The action is crisp and fast paced. The characters are well developed and interesting. I wish the author had kept the saga going in this volume. It didn't last long enough to make me want to read a follow on book.

Wow! Julia Vee and Ken Bebelle's first book is a rapid-fire, engrossing read! Once I started, I couldn't put it down. It's a curt 90 e-pages, which makes for a quick read, but has a high level of detail and rich world-building. The Earth-bound military setting pairs extremely well with descriptions of futuristic cybernetics and bizarre alien technology, and the authors combine their talents for a pacey multi-perspective narrative.

I think "Alien Incursion" makes a better introduction to the Cold War world than "The Needle", the official prequel of the series. A purchase decision is a no-brainer: get this book to see if you like the plot and writing (you will), and then purchase the rest of the series if it hooks you (it will).

Way incomplete

I think there is potential here but leaving the story hanging is as bad as the device of flashbacks and time changes. If this were a complete story, it would not be bad but frozen aliens needs more realism and more completeness. I understand the desire to sell mor books but this serial type development is not my taste.

Very good story. I've always liked space stories, and this one, even though it doesn't take place in space, fits the bill quite nicely. If you're a fan of alien stories, (especially alien invasion stories), then you won't want to miss this series. I'm off to find more in the series, great stuff here.

The home front

So do baddies find it home planet, Earth and they want it. They start off with a not of terra forming. Being the humans we are, we fight back.
I am enjoying this book more than I thought I would. Mil Sci-fi is hard to write. The authors are doing well.

Interesting

Read the free pages, I’m no writer.

Five stars as the series has a lot of promise going forward, the first book quite setting the scene, and enjoyable too.
