Simon Oliver was hatched in South London in 1969. Since that date he has consistently strived for mediocrity in a number of fields of employment, from cooking at the legendary Hacienda Club of Manchester in the late 1980's, scuba diving instructor in the planet's more tropical climes, to a career as a camera assistant in Hollywood. With such a spotty and heterogeneous employment record is seemed only fitting that the comic book would industry welcome him with open arms in 2005 for his writing debut in THE EXTERMINATORS.

The Hellblazer #12 - 2.5 out of 5 stars

The Hellblazer (#7 - #12 ) : The Smokeless Fire - 2 out of 5 stars

What I Liked :

😊 The plot is very mysterious and makes me want to read more to find out how Constantine gets through this .
😊 The colouring during the first 3 books of this story arc were fantastic to look and marvel at .

What I didn’t Like :

😒 The pencils were absolutely horrible , none of the character looked good , the heights of different characters varied on page by page basis .
😒 The dialogues were awkward and many times didn’t make sense .
😒 The panel placements were absolutely annoying and were really confusing to get through at times .
😑 The story despite it’s mysterious charms doesn’t make sense at more than a few instances .
😬 It was all a confusing mess .
😬 Papa Midnight appeared & this is not spoiler , why ? because his appearance itself was confusing , he appeared out of nowhere , helped Constantine with no clear cut motive and then disappeared all in span of 3 pages , makes me question why he was bought in the first place?
😡 Also Papa Midnight , instead of being portrayed as a complex character with hidden motives and no clear cut relationship with John is actually portrayed as a Friend of Constantine . WTF

Verdict:

Not worth the time or money , skip it , unless you are a die hard Constantine fan and even then I’d recommend borrowing it from library or something

End of the Paris arc (aka second volume). This arc sure has a tendency to not feel a lot like Hellblazer. And this issue feels a lot like Indiana bloody Jones. Except the ending. The ending is all John in a classic Hellblazer "up yours" style. But again, it works for me. I like this "light" take on Hellblazer. I sure can enjoy John Constantine as a part of the light reading.
