Kara Dennings is notoriously hated by the entire state of Nexus due to being the daughter of Cornelius Dennings, the head scientist who caused the outbreak of a deadly virus that took many lives.
Sick of being labelled as the 'Crazy Dennings Girl' after her father sent her to an insane asylum for her apparent hallucinations, Kara tires to prove her worth by volunteering to clean up her father's mess.
Dylan Jefferson returns home to Sector 7 with his fiancée Chloe to see that the harbour has been destroyed and Chloe's fellow fisherman are dead. He and the rest of the members of the Force are taken back to headquarters to train the volunteers to fight against the Infected that have claimed the underground net of tunnels that run through the entire state.

This is an engaging and exciting read. The characters are strong and well-rounded, and the relationships between them are interesting and very believable - particularly compelling is Kara's relationship with/feelings towards her father and how this affects her personality and decisions. The tone is perfect for a dystopian novel sci-fi novel - grim and dark, but ultimately thought-provoking and relevant to our world at the moment - and the use of different timelines detailing different strands of the narrative throughout the story allows the author to toy with expectations and gives certain revelations even greater impact. Overall, a very well put together novel - would certainly recommend!
